push button start

i found a site with these directions for push button start and today i was bored and had some wire and a toggle swicth lying around

1-cut the black wire with the yellow tracer
2- Run the wire to one of the terminals on your starter button
3- Splice into the White wire with the black tracer
4- Run the spliced wire to the other side of your starter button

i put the key in the on position then fliped the swicth she just turned over and over with out starting, but if i turn the key all the way she'll start, am i using the wrong wires or somthing. thanks

you have two starter wires black/white and black/yellow if you send 12volts to them while your key is on the on position it will start up fine
