rate your mods and "upgrades"
ok guys i need everyone to chip in and give me your take on mods and "upgrades". my intentions are to have as many people name some or all of their mods and upgrades along with a brief pro or con rating. in essence this is a condensed parts review of anything that you've done to you car that you are glad you did or later regretted.
one of my good mods is the short intake. i have better throttle response. a not so good "upgrade" would be the cusco engine mounts. my shifting is more precise because the engine and transmission don't move much but i really dislike the extra noise. who's next? :bigok: |
I love all my mods!!
Pro's: Aluminum drive shaft, Very responsive Steel braided clutch line, Very responsive Solid tranny mount, Very responsive K-sports w/HKS internals, Very responsive Stage 3 six puck w/11 pnd flywheel, Very responsive You get my point. Con's: Dash Mat to cover little crack, Velcro sucks A$$ |
thanks for contributing an aluminum drive shaft will hopeful be my next addition.

GT28RS "very responsive"
i have too many mods to write down.. Tein Flex coilovers Pro: Very street able and good for the track Con: too expensive SR20DET Pro: easy for light mods to gait lots of power Con: not street legal J30 VLSD Pro: increases handling very noticably and is cheap Con: dosnt work as good as a helical or clutch lsd but still cheaper lol Skyline 4pot calipers Pro: increases braking power dramaticly even with oem rotors and pads compared to stock 240 calipers. Con: it will not work properly unless u have a big enough front tire, i had 205 stocks up front and they locked up way to easy now i have 235 up front and now i can use alot more of the braking power to stop the car instead of locking up. |
R32 driver's seat
Pro-Still to date one of my favorite mods. This seat is excellent, very comfortable and bolsters like a champ. Con-Hard to find and expensive. Apexi N1 Exhaust Pro-Nice looks, one piece design and a noticable increase in performance with a great sound to it. Con-Only con I can think of is the price...of course most nice things are pricey. |
thanks guy this is just what i wanted. everyone feel free to add any mod as insignificant as it may seem. if you felt it was worth doing i want to hear about it.

-Exedy stage 1 clutch (stage 1 not oem replacement)/fidanza flywheel/removal of clutch dampner.- superb clutch feel, noticed a few more ponies/quicker acceleration with flywheel, but it seems (maybe i'm going crazy) that it "winds-out" past 6K. It seems as there isn't enough weight to carry the HP to higher rpm's.idk...
-N60 MAF. leaned out my car after i removed the EGR/other emmisions crap. Runs prime now. love it. (ghetto tuning FTW.) -3" catback i love it to death. Sounds rediculously nice/deep. -Apex'i dual funnel air filter. Looks cool, cleans all the air that my intake can suck in. -Z32 fuel filter. Costs the same, so what the hell, right? -NGK Iridium IX plugs/ Ngk wires. Noticed a little gain. -Gutted cat/cut springs/egr removal/PS removal/stripped interior/sound deadening removal. Its free and thats why i love it. -Then theres the interior: MOMO wheel/hub. Autometer guages. Evo glovebox (twead FTL), modified S13 seats. -Theres a lot more, but it's 2:00 in the a.m. so give me a break. |
Sounds dumb, but two of my favorite mods I ever did where the R33 skyline seats, and the rare momo/nissan s14 silvia K optional steering wheel. I have always felt that no matter how good the outside looks, most of your time is spent on the inside. Therefore a nice interior can go a longer way to enjoying your car. Another reason why I always preferred the S14
Most other mods I did(of which the list is vast) had downsides as well as positives. I guess I also really like the s14 and s15 SR motors (although with 5spd tranny). The later series turbos where great and VTC adds some midrange |
kts coilovers.
thread scared me, i thought you guys were gonna rate us, haha, and ive been away for a while. |
R32 Drivers Seat
Pro: Seat holds better than the stock seat while not being a bucket, plus I got it pretty cheap. Con: Hard to find, had to modify one rail. HKB hub, nrg II quick release, personal wheel Pro: I like it because it puts the wheel at a position that is more comfortable for me when pushing the car. Con: Not considered baller to some because its not tyte nardi or wb lol SS Brake/Clutch lines and new rotors and pads Pro: Responsive and limits brake fade significantly. Con: Umm, I guess if I want to upgrade later I have to shell out for new lines again and pads/rotors..... These are the mods I feel helped driving the most (minus the coils and suspension stuff, I haven't got enough seat time with them yet so I can't really say anything about them at the moment). Didn't include stuff like intake, exhaust, and all that jazz... |
3" universal K&N cone filter
Pros: Made the engine sound more grumbly, maybe a few ponies, easy to install, $40 for a lifetime filter Cons: Wasn't free Used Factory LSD Pros: Helps get off the line quicker only $60 Cons: Used condition means it takes a while to warm up Manual Transmission Swap Pros: Faster accel, Faster Braking, Faster Cornering, lightens car a lot, lets you select the gears, not too expensive Cons: I didn't do it sooner KYB AGX adjustable shocks Pros: Great for a dd on bumpy roads, adjustable Cons: Could be stiffer for autoX, I just keep them all the way hard all the time so adjustability doesn't matter OBX 2.5 Cat Back Pros: $100-$200 New, sounds decent, doesn't look ricey Cons: Unresonated, a little loud and not excellent sounding Silvia K's DIN 3 gauge cluster Pros: Lets you see oil pressure, boost, voltage Cons: $120-$200, no one I know has the boost gauge working so it's s 2 gauge cluster |
megan coilovers
pros: better handleing, go pretty low, decent quality for there price cons: its megan! 002s pros: wider, flush, look decent in some cases, mine were $200 cons: knock off, kinda heavy, have to deal with ppl saving you have 002s! s14 seats pros: love em, way more comfortable, hold you in better, sat me just a tad bit lower(this is important for a tall guy) sometimes cheap. got mine for $75 cons: meh not much, mabey wasted money towards a bucket? 350mil mooneyes wheel, hub, quick release, hub, spacer pros: more responsive steering, way closer to you(once again this is important for a taller person, leg room is needed) pretty cheap. cons: no horn, unles oyu wanna diy your own, or your wheel comes with one, hmm thats about all i can think of. basically all of my other mods have been mentioned already. |
here are some more of mine.
65mm tb and port matched intake manifold pros - quicker acceleration cons - non it came off of a parts car and i did the work myself. obx header pros - probably the single best bolt on mod. very good power gains. cons - there was a problem with getting the o2 sensor back on. i had to beat the firewall in about an inch to get it to fit right. catco high flow cat pros - worked well in conjunction with the header. cons - i should have bought a cheaper cat on ebay. msd blaster ss coil pros - snappier start up smother idle cons - not a direct fit part. dual 12" electric fans pros - i freed up some power cons - none egr block off pros - free hp cons - none walbro fuel pump pro - cheaper than oem pump, works great and drops right in. cons - none lightweight crank pulley (sold it now) pros - engine revs somewhat faster cons - the alt was under driven and couldn't supply the sufficient power for a 100w amp for 2 10" enclosed subs and a 12" free air sub. weight reduction pros - about 200lbs have been removed but the interior looks complete. cons - i don't have a/c or heating |
Interesting idea for sure.
I've done a ton of little crap, so I'll do just a few of the main ones. SR swap: Pro: stock turbo, great power. reliable motor. Lots of potential cons: Expensive initial investment. Not street legal. 180sx Rear diff (4.36) w/VLSD. Pro: GREAT acceleration. LSD to boot. In my case a direct plug n play installation. Cons: Hard to find 4.36 rear & pinion. Used so it's got wear and tear. Originally comes with 5 bolt axles, harder to get replacement axles. Full 3" exhaust (varies pieces). Pros:Sounds great, real increase in power, quicker spooling. Good power to $ ratio. Cons:Depending on what you get it can get expensive. Illegal on the road, higher risk of getting a ticket. no more cat mean no more possibility at emissions. KOYO Radiator. PRO: Looks sweet. Def. improvement over the oem piece. Kept my car in operating temperature even when the fans weren't working. I know I know air needs to be moving to keep the fluid cool, but i can't explain why the car wouldn't over heat without the fans running, other than this. Cons: Slightly expensive. You'd want sweet new fans to go with it. :p B&M Short shifter PROS: Great shifter feel. Reminds me of the s2k shifter, but still not as good. Cons: None really, i guess slightly expensive. Oh. some vibration is heard because of the lack of padding. It's always been there, just now it's apparent (mustang guys with steeda shifter get the same thing.) |
