S13 v. S14

Hey, I've been seeing more people getting S13's than S14's. Even people trading in a S14 for a S13. Why is it that it seems to be that S13's are more popular than the S14's? Someone enlighten me.

nsn240 12-03-2005 03:40 PM

personal preference... other reasons can be found using the search button

i like all the models... i wanted a s14, and look what i ended up with :D I also knew the seller, had worked on the car... and it only had 100k miles

silviaks2nr 12-03-2005 04:09 PM

s13s are smaller and older and crap out more often stock for stock. i prefer s14 kouki and would not settle for anything else

I think it is more for OBD1 tech. Mod for Mod the bolt ons an s13 ka will make better power. Although the s14 has a much more agressive MAP tune. Overall the s13 ka has fewer smog restrictions to the ecu, and is usually an easy fix. Personally I hate OBD2.
Alot of people also select the s13 for chassis weight it is about 100 somethin' lb.s less than the s14.
S13 chassis doesn't flex like the s14 chassis either, it is really rigid.
Personally I own an s13, but I wouldn't mind owning an s14 just for the interior. Although the s13 has more of **** pit feel to it.
Body kits for the s13 are also cheaper

Reasons why the s13 SUCKS!
It is an older car with more crap to fix.
I hate working in the smaller engine bay.
the majority of USDM s13's didn't come with VLSD, (but mine did)

ever thought that it could be because there r a sh*t load more s13 around than s14??? and s13 r cheaper for a beater and project?

lrb_2000 12-04-2005 03:26 AM

s14's look like grandma cars. :) kidding... but I think s13's just look more aggressive, and s14's look more smooth, and cleaner... I went with an s13 because I love the look, somewhat cheap, so I have more money left to spend on it, rather than trying to pay it off.

yeh... wut everybody else said~ it's mostly personal preference, abundance of 13's over 14's, um... bigger/cheaper aftermarket for 13's. I'm not sure about Big V's point about S14 chassis's flexing more, I've always heard that S14's had a MORE rigid chassis~ but then again they are slightly bigger cars too. I have a Zenki, but my tastes say Sileighty > Zenki > 180sx > Kouki > Silvia. But that's just me...

OOPS let me clarify.......
S13 Coupe has the least amount of flex in the chassis and is the lightest of all silvia/240's.
S14 zenki/kouki come next, but they weigh more than the s13chassis, (weight IMO sucks, that only means that you will need a stronger KG rate suspension, sometimes costing more money).
S13 fastback hatch has the most flex and the least rigidity just from being a hatch back.......

Supposedly the s13's have understeer from having a longer, and thinner wheel base. But that to me sounds like a load of crap, people just don't know how to drive IMO.......

dak2007 12-04-2005 02:28 PM

13s are better because there is nothing sexxxier then a fastback.

Wow, some good points made here. Much abliged with the feedback. Seems like the S13 is more the basher and the S14 is the show-off. But damn theyre both sexy.

S14 chassis is stiffer than the s13. Why would Nissan go backwards in design?

s14 is more rare and more upscale. s13 is much more common and cheaper to modify.

I have both. I drive my s13 hatch daily though :D

For a guy with 78 posts you should learn to read through entire threads....Hatchbacks are what caused teh chassis flex not the coupes......240sx/s13 coupe is strong and rigid, more so than the s14....

I love my S14……and I was really not even looking to buy a 240sx…….but I need a car and one day I seen a s14 at some crappy car dealership and he only wanted $3000.oo cash……..so I thought why not……..I just feel more up to date in my s14……..nothing really wrong with the older models, but that just how I feel about it. But i do spend alot more money ( on most parts ) having a s14
and there alot more parts out there for the s13........

I drive an S14, because it's newer, lower miles, and looks pretty aggressive in my opinion(Kouki), but I'd definitely rather have an S13 as of now.

For ME:

1) It's less money--I still wouldn't be paying the ***** off.
2) I could beat on it all day without having to worry as much about cost, etc.
3) I could do a lot more to it with the money I'd be saving from car payments and insurance.
4) Looks pretty cool itself. :)

i got a s14 zenki and for personal preference its my favorite 240 in the world. but i wouldnt take it to its limits at the track if the track had walls. i dont want to break her. but i wouldnt mind a s13 coupe to rip up at the track and take it to its limits, since its older and easier and cheaper to fix.
