s14 wont start, electrical problem for sure
 

hey guys, my friend just purchased a s14 for 1200 bucks, the car was involved in a front end accident on the passenger side, causing minor frame damage and a bent radiator support and some damage to fender/hood

at the scene of the accident, the container that holds windshield washer fluid i assume was broken and leaking fluid, the tow truck guys thought it was battery acid or something, and cut the positive battery cable including the 2 small wires going with it

i still have the other piece to it (terminal end with 2 connector things)

so i went to kragen and got an emergency battery reconnector, which is basically the terminal end with 1 small wire coming out of it, i connected the big end and spliced it to the big positive cable, then i took the 2 small wires and spliced them together and crimped it to the 1 small wire from the new connector

i connect the two terminals, (+ and -) and i try to start the car, no go..

i put the key in, i hear something beep, then i turn the key, no radio, no lights, no electrical, i turn to start the car, not even a peep, i turn the key back to off but dont take it out, and i hear a beeping noise again

does anyone know what possibly could be wrong with it? we're trying to figure this out ASAP since it's parked in the street and it needs to be moved for street cleaning, (he has no garage)

the guy he bought it from used it as a daily driver and it was all fine until it got hit, then he left it alone for about 3 months parked in a garage until he decided to get rid of it

now assuming all the mechanical parts of the car are working, starter, alternator, battery, spark and fuel, what else could i try to get the car to be started? there seems to be power coming fom the battery but nothing happens when i turn the key

cliffnotes: front end accident, tow guys cut positive wire + 2 small wires to the battery, spliced it back, turn key, no start, no radio, turn key off, i hear beeping

Just to clear it up, that's not the coolant reservoir. The coolant res. is right there on the right behind the left side headlamp with the yellow cap on it. What you'r ereferring to is the windshield washer tank (green arrow in your pic).

First question that comes to mind: you used te word "assuming". Have you actually checked all of these components? Do you know if the starter is getting voltage after your splicing? Have you checked all the fuses/relays? Also (not to make you sound like a newb or anything) you are stepping on the clutch all the way down right? Have you tried push-starting it to see if the starter might be the only problem?

voltage to the starter, i haven't checked any yet, it's been raining and the car is parked outside on a slight incline, if i try push starting it, we're afraid we can't get the car back into parked position lol

fuses/relay's haven't checked yet, but that was my next step, since nothign in the car works at all, but yet there is a chime when the key is in the off position, i'm sure there is power coming from the battery

Dead Battery. First thing to check. Duh.

thats what i was thinking....check the battery....thats probably your problem. If not...check your wires again, its somthing simple.

i got a new battery put in the car to see if it worked..it didn't..so stfu with the sarcasm

Even brand new batteries can be DOA. Don't pull smart **** with me. I've been working on cars longer than you proably have been out of middle school.

Battery, Alternator, Starter, Fuses, Ignition. Get a volt meter and start chasing them all down. Start with the battery and work your way back.

If you are getting nothing from turning the key, then you aren't even getting voltage to your fuse block or past your fuse block. The power cable runs into the harness on these cars and I beleive to the Alternator or starter. The two leads that you had to reconnect go to the fuse block. They are what power everything else in the car.

You're gonna get a lot of smart ass comments around here. Thats a fact. The less you throw back when somebody says something like what I did, the better response you will get from people. You didn't let what I said roll off your shoulder, so I can see you are proably going to have a hard time.

Also...don't crimp your wires, especially something of that gauge. You're just asking for trouble then. :)
