So I failed emissions....

My readings were 1.04 for HC and 9.2 for CO

The legal limit for HC is 0.80 and 15.0.

I passed the CO limit by a decent margin but I'm obviously not burning enough fuel.

I ran the test on mid-grade so 93 V-power alone probably won't get me down the extra 0.24 points.

I've been reading that running injector cleaner helps a lot. Does it matter if I pour it in before I tank up or not? I think not as it would all mix together anyway.

I think its also important to not that over the last 2 weeks or so my idle has been getting rougher.

I was standing in line with my car on and not only would the idle flucuate from 500-750 rpm but the car would shake a little? Could it be knocking?

Thanks in advanced.

they sell a fuel additive for it at auto-zone ... You fill up your tank, then pour that in. Drive aruond for a bit, then bring it in for testing.

I failed mine too, but i want to at least try to fix the problem instead of getting around it, i want my car to run correctly. I'm replacing my EGR valve, if that doesn't work i'll try some new cats. After that f'em .. i'll put additive in and bring it to my dad's friend to have him pass me.

Well you guy's are all wrong. HC stands for hydro Carbons. That means that your timing and/or cams are not aligned to burn fuel at the right time in the ignition cycle. This means more fuel and less o2.
So it could be a few thing's, your cams are worn, (highly doughtful).
Your ignition timing at the distributor is advanced more than 21BTDC, or retarded more than 18BTDC
Timing chain is really worn, ( could be possible)
Recomendation: replace all electrical plugs, wires, and rotor/cap if that hasn't been done for 30,000miles.
Also change your o2 sensor .

Don't be a fool 91 octane is all you need...........

Try using seafoam. It can be had at an automotive store for $5 a can. You can use it three ways: in your tank when you fill up, through your crankcase, and through the brake booster line while the car is running. I've done all three and it works wonders.

That sucks man, I took my dads vette in and it failed the HC at .82, a little money out of my pocket a few seconds later, and what do you know, he somehow "misread" the readings...
