so im thinking of buying a bare shell

**if you do not want to read. scroll down to bottom for cliffnotes** lol

so my friend wants me to buy is pignose. theres no engine, harness, dash harness, no cross members, and no drive shaft. i want to get into megasquirt. as of right now im not really sure about buying it cause im in the middle of moving. but if i do get it, im gonna use megasquirt on it regaurdless. so my question is, if i run megasquirt, can i use anoter gauge cluster. like, i like the kinda gauges that go compleately black when it is off. i believe defi. it dont really matter what brand it is i just like the smoke face of gauges when not operating. so is that possible with the megasquirt. and also. if i do run megasquirt i can easily put any rb seris motor in the car right. i just have to have all the nessasary sensors to run the motor. does the megasquirt ecu also read form the tranny? i hope so. well sorry for the long post.

cliff notes.

1. might buy pignose.
2. considering megasquirt
3. can megasquirt run custom guages.
4. can megasquirt run rb seris engine with custom wire harness.
4. can the ecu read the speed. or can i just go from the tranny straight to the mph guage.

thanks guys.

I dunno about the megasquire stuff, but he better be selling you that shell for almost nothing if it doesn't come with any harnesses, cross members, or drive shaft. All of that stuff from a junkyard or from other people will cost you a bit and it'll be tough to find. I say find a better shell with everything unless your friend is practically giving you his shell.

he said crossmembers, plural. So I'm assuming he also meant the rear subframe? so then he also lacks hubs, brakes, diff, the whole shabang also?

if you're serious about the custom dash gauges. i'd go stack or AIM sport. they have everything available, and you can record all your data.

as for the megasquirt issue. why do you want to go megasquirt? i've heard the only reason people use it, is because it's cheap and can get the job done. for a little bit of money you can probably pickup a stand alone from AEM or someone else. more tuners are familiar with that, so they can help you tune the car.
