I would recommend using one. We did when we did my suspension... the first one we didn't put it on right, and everything went flying when I loosened the top nut.

not using a spring compressor is a good way to get hurt... there is a lot of pressure in that strut... and whan you try to take them apart bad things can happen... if you are brave... and what to find out what can happen... put the strut on the ground... stand on the spring and use an impact wrench to remove the top nut... make sure no one is standing around you when yo do this... the strut will shoot off somewhere... one word af advise... when doing this be ready to pay the price... i have seen the strut do things like go through walls,,,tires,,, put basketball size dents into car doors... shatter glass and the worst one was shatter a guys foot... you still wanna take it apart without a spring compressor???

exactly what i was going to say.

most auto parts stores rent them for free. they usually just charge 40-50 bucks for a deposit, which is refunded when you bring the tool back. or if you want you can just buy the compressors which again run 40-50 bucks. or if you dont wanna do that, take everything apart.... and take the 4 strut/spring combo down to your local mechanic. they should only charge you 10 bucks per strut/spring combo. whichever you want. your choice.
