timing belt guides.

jramosthe1st! Apr 19, 2009 06:44 PM

my first impulse is to say that it sounds like low oil pressure which leads to lifters ticking. the sohc can be rather noisy though so it may or may not be it.

BigVinnie Apr 19, 2009 08:18 PM

Sounds like a bent valve

well at times i check and there is low oil i refuel it and it kind of goes away but when i checked the oil to day it seems to be alright

I agree with jramosthe1st, thats usually what a ticking will be my second guess would be timing belt guides.(I'd hope it was the timing belt guides) Its the easier fix

timing chain not belt

I don't think KA24E have issues with the timing chain guides.
Correct me if I am wrong.

the guide on the kae can and some times will fail like the upper guides on the de. it becomes brittle with time and can brake off.

when i suggested low oil pressure i wasn't referring to the oil level. there may be a relation between the two in this case but that is not always so. low oil pressure can be a result of a number of things that range from a simple and fairly inexpensive repair to a complete engine rebuild.

vinnie mentioned a bent valve and that too is a possibility. so to rule out one or the other i'd do a compression or leak down test and check the oil pressure as specified in the fsm.

ok once i get that compression test i'll let you guys know what it says
