trunk latch and door lock

this might sound really stupid but how do i get my trunk latch to work? i bought the car a couple days ago and the trunk latch doesn't work...it opens the gas tank when you push down but when you pull it nothing happens. i'm only asking because every time i stick my key in the trunk lock the key actually twists and i have to bend it back straight i'm just afraid that the key is going to brake in it and i will have no way in the trunk at all.

also my door locks don't work on either door. if i lock the door from inside and close the door the lock pops back into the unlocked position like it was never locked at all. when i lock it from the outside it doesn't work. this can be pretty bad if i don't get it fixed so any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

ok, i have the same door issue, it happens with old doors.

What you do is, you lock it from the inside... as your closing the door, hold the handle up(like you were going to pull it open)
When the door is completely shut, let go of the handle.
Try to open it, it should be locked. Or just use your key :).

As for the trunk .. i'm not sure, check the linkage on your handle. Pull your carpet up and look at it ... it might've gotten disconnected somehow. Or near the latch on the trunk.

if i use the key on my door it doesn't work either. it's really weird. thanks for the holding the handle trick i'll have to try that. as far as the trunk goes i thought it might be disconnected somewhere cuz everytime i pull it i don't hear anything moving...plus the carpet looks brand new for the car to be 16 years old it doesn't have any stains or rips...i bet if they replaced it someone unhooked it by accident. i'll have to give it a look

yeah, try it out man, i bet thats it.

Prolly right about the trunk too. Damn workers! Don't they know we need keyless entry?

hey man this is off subject but on your cardomain site where did you get the spoilers?

...the trunk problem could be 3 things off the top of my head -

1) someone tried to break in and stuck something in the lock, and now it's all messed up

2) trunk lock itself is frozen

3) trunk release cable is stretched or binding

...for the door, pull the interior panel off and check the mechanical rods, I bet one of them is disconnected or broken.

check the hyrdaulic support "thingies" on the hatch. after 15 or so years they wear out.

edit: also the plastic stub along the cable may have broken. had to replace mine. good thing my car was gutted as i was swapping interiors when i did this.

I am having just the opposite my door is locked and it doesn't unlock neither with the key or manually.
I can hear the power lock rattling as it tries to unlock but it doesn't also if a try manually the lock pin goes back to lock again as it is some type of ghost trying to pi$$ me.
Any ideas???

does it have an alarm that youre not aware of?

there are two bolts holding the trunk locking mechanism to the rear of the car. loosen up those two screws and slide the mechanism down and tighten up the bolts. now close the trunk and try opening it by hand without the key, if you can open it by hand that means that you lowered the mechanism to far. loosen the bolts again and pull the mechanism up a tad bit and tighting the bolts. close the hatch or trunk and try opening again with your hand, if it is secured, try your latch from inside your car and it may work as it did for me. i'll post some pictures via fsm in a bit.
