weird problem

dunno if this is a stupid question or not but im like too tired to think right.

but i was driving and my Brake light and battery light would flicker on and off while im driving maybe i got most likely got a loose connection somewhere but what would make that do that any wire in particular?

shaban Feb 27, 2009 05:10 PM

Weird, idk why it would flicker... but my brake and battery light came on when my alternator went out... you might want to get yours checked.

i dont think its the alt i think one of the cables is loose or somthing i messed with it today.

the plug felt pretty loose

Jaescrub Feb 28, 2009 01:52 PM

mine did that on my s13 then it just stoped after 2 or 3 days but i did find "and i dont think this is what was wrong" that the ground was not on good for my fal fans and it burned up the fuse >_<

240smoke Feb 28, 2009 02:10 PM

Mine did that, it was something with the wiring. I forgot what it was. Alternator was fine.

Biggamehit Feb 28, 2009 02:44 PM

generally whenever that happen to me/someone i know, the negative terminal was loose and or needed to just be replaced.

battosaii930 Feb 28, 2009 07:30 PM

yea i think the internal volt regulator in my alternator is F'ed the batt light stays on now i changed the ground and still stays on. reason why i think its the internal volt meter is because the alt is Hissing when the car is off and i checked the batt with my DMM and its charging at 15 volts

Biggamehit Feb 28, 2009 10:10 PM

wow 15v, thats over charging

240smoke Feb 28, 2009 11:34 PM

Wait, is it charging at 15V with the car running or is the battery reading 15V?? The battery is actually supposed to be arout 12.8 volts at a steady state.

Biggamehit Feb 28, 2009 11:43 PM

with the battery, you can't just put a DMM on it, you must check the voltage across the alternator becuase it has an load on it.

240smoke Feb 28, 2009 11:56 PM

Well you could if it was disconnected. What is the normal charging range of an alternator?? I thought it was supposed to be a couple volts above 12??

battosaii930 Mar 1, 2009 02:09 AM

normally soposed to be 13-14v car running with good alt

battosaii930 Mar 2, 2009 10:47 PM

weird i changed my alt but its still over charging and batt+ brake light still on goto be somthing wrong with the wiring gona have to check my harness tomorrow... man... always somthing wrong with my car.

i hear that:werd:

a good system is never below 13.2ish volts. any decent battery can present 12v with an simple DMM however, when you go to crank it, if the cranking amps are not up to it, the car will simply not do anything.

check your fuses batt.
