Offset is the distance (typically in mm) between the center line of the wheel, and the flat mounting surface of the wheel. Positive means the mounting part of the wheel is towards the outside of the wheel, negative is towards the inside of the wheel.

ok so i have a 93 240sx coupe. what offset should i get. a 35mm
|
Depends on how wide the wheel is, how you want it to fit, and what tires you are going to run. On my 92 I have 17x9 +35 with 275/40/17 tires on them on the rear. They fit perfect. If you went with an 8" wide wheel, I'd say a +30 would be better in the back. I run a +27 17x8 up front and the wheel sits great!

im running 17x8.5+12 (f) and 17x9.5+22 rear and i need spacers.....
0 offset /thread go research offset has been covered by a million sites over a million times |

And what size tires do you run? Lol, if you ran 275's on those rears, they'd stick way out! Why would you need spacers?!?!
Here is what a 17x9 +35 offset with 275's on them look like... Attachment 11198 Attachment 11199 Attachment 11200 Attachment 11201 This is what a real sized tire looks like: Attachment 11202 |

Edit: Adam doesn't have fat tires, so it doesn't look as flush, so spacers are needed, only like 5mm though... |
Why get a wide wheel if you can't run a wide tire? It's pointless, and some people even go to unsafe levels with 195's on a 9" wide wheel. That simply looks retarded!
|
I run 235's on my 9" wide tires.
It's not stretched at all. and you get wide tires so you can drag. I don't drag, I drift, so traction isn't really a necessity for me... |
lol at you guys i hate skinny tires i have 255's on the rear and they are too skinny for the rim im going with 295/35 next time and 245/40 up front. Alex just because the tire is wide dosnt mean its for drag.
a good drag radial is wide with a soft side wall the tires i use are wide with a stiff sidewall for cornering. and yes it will fit the reason why im not going to run a spacer in the back. but then again the s14 has alot more fender room then an s13 |
width is more important than the offset of the wheel. once you decide on a wheel width and tire width, then decide what offset will work best. I personally prefer wider wheel and wider tire (square-no stretch) but I'm kind of a hypocrite I guess. I compromised in the offset department because I chose my wheels for their very light weight, width, and "sweet" factor... so 16x8-10 front and 16x9 0 rear. I would prefer something like 16x9 +15 front and 16x10 +10 rear.
