why do we drift?????

Doing a project on drifting for skool.
So really why do we drift? why do people feel the need to rip up their tires, f_ck up their suspension, risk their live in da mountains????

I think it's all 'bout displaying control. It seems to be mainly a show of skill and not so much a straight out goal like racing on a circuit or 1/4 mile events.

i did a powerpoint on it to showed some vid's also. except i did it on how drifting reflected japan as a culture and not drifting in general. i would say drifting in an essence is the anti-motorsport. it allows freedom of expression and individuality. Drifting is simply an enjoyable act in which human beings are fascinated with. earlier referred to as "fishtailing" or "powersliding"and was usually associated when u "lost control" drifting is now a controlled act in which slides can be turned into a showboating spectator sport. idk i'll post more thoughts if u want

haha That's funny I'm doing an after effects project on 'culture'.
Anyone know the 'origin' of 'drifting?

I do it cause it's fun (will I try ) I also like to have that control in a crazy moment that you throw yourself into willingly.

I wanna use terms for my vid.
My instructor asked of terms. Like what do you call a 'good drifter' & a 'bad drifter' I saw that when two cars are side by side during a powerslide it's called 'louse' in Japanese or something like that.
Anyone know the slang of such things in Japanese?

I think I opened a big door here

Found It
*Choku-Dori (aka Chaku-Dari)
A side to side, swaying drift typically used on straightaways. Preferably performed as fast as possible while trying to get as close to the guardrails as possible

*tandem drift runs nicknamed "tsuiso" (chase-run)

My friend was into rally and showed me plenty of videos of complete 180 turns. I thought it looked cool.
Then i started making a collection of Best Motoring International which led to my taste in JGTC and i followed deeper to D1. I love drifting's laid back, relax, have a good time community and competition. I don't go too hard 'cus it's still my transportation to work the morning after

you should check out something called "gymkata". That should be spelled right. Basically it's a fusion between drifting and autocross. It's really bada5s I think.

it's gymkahana. It's basically a parking lot type place with a cone setup like autocross and you drift it or do whatever you want. Btw, people who drift to NOT be ricers...ARE ricers.

I drift because I find it fun and i like having fun...

and to impress the ladies...
