Speed sensor

well with my s13 in the air waiting for my alternator to arrive i wanted to see why my speedo dosnt work and i see the speed sensor isnt plugged in to anything. there is no harness the comes back to the tranny no wires so my question is how do i find out what i need to do to get the speed sensor working again.

Can i hardwire the speed sensor directly to the cluster?

As far as when you said the speed sensor isn't plugged into anything, is that the cluster side or what? I don't know if the speed sensor harness would even be on the transmission any where--but then again I've never owned an S13, and it is different from car to car.

Well, you may be able to run the wiring directly to the tach, but what I would do is look up some schematics on where the speed sense wire is located and check to see where that bundle of wiring goes to. Sorry I'm not much help, but just let me know what comes up and I'll keep thinking, lol.

the speed sensors in all s13 and s14 from US or Japan is in the tranny and yes the tranny has a harness and i need it for MPH the tach runs off of the distributor

s13 and s14 speed sensor wires are different in lengths. The s13 has a long wire from the speed sensor to the harness and the s14 has no wire coming from the speed sensor, only the lower harness wire which is long connects to the speed sensor.
