electric fan install

1. get an electric fan(s)
be sure the fan(s) will meet your needs that is a "push" or "pull". mine are
two ac condenser fans welded together. as long as the fan(s) you are not adjustable speed this will work for you.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1st/fans-1.jpg

2. find the relay(s) and temp switch
if you are going to use one fan one relay is fine. for two fans you'll need two relays (1 per fan) you can buy a bosch spdt (single pull double throw) relay
from just about any parts store for about $5. or you could get a used nissan
headlight relay for about $2 at a wrecking yard. the temp switch is made my hayden inc. you can find them at any parts store for about $20 (3652 is the kit number)
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...topofrelay.jpg

3. mount the temp switch
just find a suitable location and secure it. it only has two connections that need to be made the one marked "c" will be the +12v from the relay and the other will be the ground. the temp probe will need to be placed near the upper radiator hose.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o.../tempprobe.jpg

4. wiring the relay(s)
1. +12v from ignition (15amp)-here i used the ac wiring since i don't have ac
2. +12v to "c" on temp switch
3. +12v from battery (15amp)
4. not used
5. to + on fan(s)

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...aysmounted.jpg
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...finished-1.jpg

5. try it out
you should set the switch to the lowest setting and make sure the fan(s) turn on. if this is so turn the switch to the next setting. the fan(s) should turn off now and come on in a few minuets. if they do you did it right.

if you have any questions just ask and i'll do my best to answer them.

i'm in the process of removing or hiding some how everything that looks out of place. the vacuum lines are next. they'll be getting routed through the front of the radiator and only be visible at the charcoal canister like the battery wires.

txsileighty 11-03-2007 10:59 AM

yeah my 89 looks like that, i dont know what the previous owner did, but wires and vacuum are over the place....

This info will come in handy when I wire up my fan for the install to come, good write-up.

jramosthe1st! 11-03-2007 07:45 PM

thanks.
always glad i could help.

BigVinnie 11-03-2007 09:56 PM

If some one doesn't sticky this thread I am going to be pissed!!

Initial Daniel 11-04-2007 03:15 AM

Haha, awesome write-up. You know you're a true 240 owner when you have random wires holding stuff up. I love it! Lmao.

don't look at me i just write this stuff i can't sticky it.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the effects that removing the stock clutch fan has on the engine. Less drag on engine = better fuel economy (according to my tests)... however, less drag on engine = foot farther to the floor. =]

^^its common knowledge here bro

not very new.. but many people ask over and over good stuff. it doesn't need to be stickied.. its in the how-to section lol.

remember you also got you altima fan install floating around vinnie

What I want to do is make the ultimate electric fan sticky thread combining JRamos, mine, and the other dude that did the ultima fan install as one merged thread.

jramosthe1st! 11-29-2007 07:03 PM

i say go for it.

sticked or not it doesn't matter to me i just put this together to help out others with the proses.

Ayuaddict 12-01-2007 01:29 AM

very nice, useful info.

i need to do this like asap.

bucket240 12-01-2007 01:00 PM

I just got done doing mines with duel altima fans and a F.A.L thermo switch. All you need is the instructions from the thermo switch to do the install (super easy). Only hard part was cutting all the plastic around the fans.

very cool (no pun intended) mod/write up. It's hard to tell from the pic, but are the fans in front of radiator? are they pushing or pulling?
Thanks for the link :bigok:

jramosthe1st! 01-23-2009 12:11 PM

yes the fans are in front of the radiator they are push fans. there are quite a few reasons for using these fans. the main reason is that i already had them and didn't want to buy others. the a/c condenser was removed to allow the fans to be more efficient and allow the oncoming air flow to help cool the radiator also. by placing the fan in front of the radiator i used the fans as a guard against debris also.

what's this box against the radiator fins with the wires going to it?

could you do a write up on this

no offence to this DIY but its kind of a messy install and the fans dont look that great, im sure everything works but im looking to do it on my s14 and everything needs to be done right and look OEM

that's the adjustable temp switch. the temp probe is on the other side of the radiator under the upper radiator hose.

most likely that's not going to happen seeing as how he hasn't posted on here for some time now.

none taken, it is a bit messy because at the time i was rather pressed for time and was doing the write up because i was asked to by a few new members. now most of the wires and hoses are hidden quite nicely. as to the look well that's a matter of opinion. although you can't get much more oem than the original factory a/c condenser fans.

94 sentra_xe 01-23-2009 06:03 PM

allright thanks man, also thanks again for not taking it the wrong way....most message boards would have had ten more pages of people *****ing about what i said haha

fadedsilvia 01-23-2009 10:12 PM

in an s14 doesnt the a/c fan run with engine temp as well?

if thats the case then couldnt you just use that to run the altima fans?
that would eliminate having to get fan controllers or temp sensors, an alot of wiring.
an if your like me you can make your own "y" harness complete with plugs to jus plug in both fans to that one plug

or would this idea fail horribly an i blow up my engine from overheating on a mildly warm day?..
