OG Raine's Garage Guides: Fixing the Timing Chain Rattle (S13/S14 DOHC)

Wrote these awhile back, but a few buddies started getting into 240sx' and brought me here again... so I thought I'd re-post my guides for the newer people who wasn't around yet when I was a regular LOL

Fixing the Timing Chain Rattle (S13/S14 DOHC)

Intro: If you're reading this, chances are you have the dreaded "rattle rattle rattle" noise coming from under the hood somewhere when you start the car or have it sitting at idle. You've searched around and asked around, and the common diagnosis is "your timing chain guide". So now you know you have to remove it, but you're not so sure you'll be able to do the job.

This procedure takes about 60-90 minutes once you start unbolting the valve cover. Take your time, you don't want to rush anything.

Just to get this right.. well.. let me give you a brief story of my situation here. i know of a 92 s13 for sale. the guy has had it for 6 years and it has been sitting most of that time. suprisingly it has no rust. the paint is faded and the interior is mostly striped.. it still has the carpet and drivers seat. one of the things it needs is a timing chain and i know i would mess it up so if i get the car i would like to have my mechanic do it. if i get a new chain... do i just need the chain and sprockets?... no guides?

you should replace the hydraulic tensioner on the left side, might as well since you'll be taking a lot more off - not just what's in this guide
