unsticking stuck lifters
ok guy here is what you've all been waiting for.
tools needed 1. small pick and flat head screwdriver 2. easy out 3. pliers (maybe) 4. patience 1. you'll need to look closely but you can see that lifer has a clip holding the cylinder from falling out. this is the hard part, i got lucky and removed the clip in about 2 min. but spent about 15 min trying to take another one apart. with the pick or screwdriver remove the clip. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/DSCF0661.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/DSCF0668.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/DSCF0114.jpg 4. clean out the inside of the lifer. i used this stuff called b'laster, and some break cleaner just spray some in the cylinder put the spring back in and squeeze it a few times then put some fresh oil in and reassemble. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...t/DSCF0678.jpg this can be done fairly quickly but it can take all day. it just depends how fast you can take the clip off. also i soaked the lifters in diesel for a few days before i took them apart. maybe next time i'll show you how to make solid lifters. i haven't made any yet but i have it all in my head. :thumb: |
Wow good work bro A+++
|
i forgot to mention something.
before you put the lifter back together take the spring off the little relief valve. spay your choose of penetrating oil into the larger of the two cylinders then put them together her and squeeze until the relief valve it unclogged. otherwise air will get trapped and cause a vacuum which will lead to your lifters sticking again. then just install the lifters and go through the bleeding process as recommended in the fsm. |
dude use the lil flower close up mode
|
got it, i was wondering what that was for but never bothered reading the manual.
also i'll go back and redo my first post to include all the steps with better pics when i get a chance. |
hey Jram can you rehost those pictures.... Im helping a fellow 240 buddy with this possible issue.
Domo |
give me a day or two, i have to dig up a lifter and take some more pictures.
|
Roger that
thanks bro!! |
i apologize for not getting the pics up sooner, i've been busy.
|
would this help a noisy valve train issue?
|
absolutely.
my lifters rattled so bad that it sounded like i have marbles under the valve cover. after cleaning them out and going through the bleed out process as described in the fsm, all that is gone. although the dohc lifters are different though and am not sure what you would need to do about them. other than pouring a quart of atf in the crank case and hope that works. |
ill look through my fsm an see if theres a bleeding procedure an all that stuff but i dunno how different they would really be there still hydraulic lifters
or maybe its like any other project I start were nothing goes according to plan and theyll be completely diferent:dunno: |
yep.... completely different:smilie_thumbsdown:
