KA24DE rebuild for low boost

hey whats up all, i got a 96 SE and after thorough research on turboing the KA, ive decided thats what im gonna do. compression test today revealed that cylinder 4 is only squeezin about 125 psi out. i kno it should be around 175. anyways...now i need to get new pistons cuz my rings are done on that cylinder. I was wondering, do i NEED to get cams and valves, springs, retainers? or can I just get some new pistons since im only lookin for about 6-7 psi and 230 hp or so. Im pretty sure the stock forged rods will hold up under that. Also, most of the forged pistons i see are oversized so i would need a bore? is there anyway around this so i dont have to strip it down to the block?
Im thinkin wiseco pistons, better head gasket, new timing chain......stage 1 boostdesign kit. thanks yall

yo i just talked to a guy i know that has a turbo altima (KA24) and he said dont go cheap on the rods. also, are you sure they have stock bore pistons? im still gonna need to sned the block to a machine shop right, since the 9 yr. old pistons are so broken in to the cylinder...
damn this is lookin more expensive everyday.....
1,000 - boost designs rebuild kit
700- pauter rods
~2500- BD turbo kit

the timing chain should be fine. i don't think they have to ever be replaced.

hence the word chain

for low boos thee is no reason to rebuild unless you have a bad turbo then just buy a new KA for around $200

hey keep me up to date

I am interested to hear how it goes. I'd like to see if I could get 200 to 300 HP out of the KA especially since it only has 53,000 miles on it. I am anxious to hear how your project goes even though I am sure it will be a long process.

Pull the head, oil pan, crank, rods and pistons. you have to hone by hand w/ drill but no pullin o' the block

wow! YOU CAN NOT REPLACE RINGS THAT WAY OR RODS/BEARINGS.. AND WONT BE ABLE TO DROP A CRANK OUT THAT WAY WIHTOUT RMOVING THE REAR CRANK CASE. TRUST ME I ASKED SO MANY PEOPLE IF I COULD DO MY BLOCK THAT WAY. wikd24d is one of the people i have asked, spacedog0o1 is another... pulling the block will be much faster and easier on you to replace your rings.

don't waste your time trying to replace ur rings without pulling the block out. I learned from people and you will too. just pull it and get it over with.

yeah my compression is fine, about 180 or above across the board. i re-checked it a few weeks ago, it mustve been a faulty gauge whcih i suspected cuz the car runs fine. anyways, i got my 370 SR injectors and a JWT ecu on the way that i got for 400 bucks. now just waitin for sum $ for the kit
also just installed a turbo-back exhaust on my firneds wrx...wow that thing is nice

6 or 7 psi can only really get you about 225whp...stock 9.5:1 compression can handle 10psi as long as you have a good tune on it....IT'S ALL ABOUT THA TUNE
