Ach plz Help !

Hey everyone. I am new to this forum. Anyways I have recently bought a 1989 s13. Manual transmission. 159,xxx miles on engine. Interior is perfect i was so amazed I had to have it and it runs good not great but good. (bought it for 1200 cash). But anyways I have a couple questions.

1) I noticed when I am driving on not so loud roads, I hear a rattle coming from beneath the car. When i pull over and put it in nuetral the rattle is gone. What could this be any idea? It is definatly NOT rod knock I have had that checked. Plus its not under the hood when i rev it wirth hood up.

2) The oil change sticker SAYS the car got an oil change around 1400 miles ago, BUT I thought i had rodknock so I popped the hood to make sure it wasn;t just me running low on oil, and it was completly BONE DRY. I filled it up and check the oil every other day or so and it seems as if the oil is being used up. There is no leak im sure of it. when i park in the driveway I have not noticed a single drop. I even left it running nuetral for about 30 mins in the driveway to make sure it wasn;t happening while car was running and no leaks. Am I really just burning up oil that quickly? What could I do to fix this very annoying problem

3) When I am on freeway going at freeway speeds 5th gear has virtually slim to none pickup. I have to be in 4th gear going at 4500 rpm just to get 5th gear to 3000 flat! When i try and get it up it seems as no matter what i do nothing will work. I floor it in 5th and my revs go up so slowly I can barely notice it.

4)I know it is an old s13 with a lot of mileage but it runs strong still. I want to turn this into a track car but not for a looooooong time. What can I modify and what should I mod it with to make my performance peak but still keeping it california street legal. I want to turbo it but i was talking to my friends and they said either the s14 engine will not fit or it would not pass for smog in a million years one or the other I think. I really want to turbo it but I've heard some people dropping a corvette engine in it and having a lot of success? Does anyone have any ideas for making it street legal but turbo also...? I am every possible thing i can to it but i want to keep it legal. Any idea for exhast?... I already know I'm getting coil overs. so suspension is covered.

rattle might be the heat shield on the cat. give it a shake and see if its loose.

s14 engine will fit but youll need to swap some stuff.

only street legal turbo kit is greddy and thats only for s14...

legalon that car would be noting if you go by california smog standards... the dual cam ka was not offered in the 89 240sx... some refs will let you pass with the newer motor if you have all of the emission control devices installed... depends on what state you live in as to what you can do to keep it legal and still build performance...
