AEM Bypass Valve with Injen CAI?
 

I'm looking into purchasing an intake for my s14 and I'm stuck with a couple of questions. I'd like to get the short ram intake with the cold air extension and heat shield/splash guard from Injen...only problem is I'd be worried about sucking up water and causing hydrolock...I've looked around and searched and have come up with a few options to help prevent this. 1) K&N makes filter wraps, one being called a DryCharger, it's water repellent and it helps to keep your filter cleaner for longer...I am waiting on a response from them to my email asking how effective this filter wrap would be in my situation. 2) AEM's bypass valve...I know that the valve is sold in different sizes so I know that one would fit the Injen system, but will it be functional? I've emailed both Injen and AEM and obviously they won't say if it'll work or not, only thing they talk about is the warranty being voided...blah blah blah. Does anyone know anything about either of these options like if the K&N filter wrap would be effective or if the AEM bypass valve would work with the Injen system and how hard of an install it'd be? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

it would work if u get the same size.. email injen and ask how wide thier pipe is (most likely 3" but it could be 77mm) then get a bypassvalve that size

ya i'm waiting on a response from Injen for the dimensions of the pipes and filter. anybody know how hard the install would be? thanks again...

if its pre made for ur car easy.. just a matter of taking out the stock intake, couple of screws and bolts.. then screwing in the new one..

no i was talking about the difficulty of installing the AEM bypass valve on the Injen intake...tryin to see if anyone has done this...

installing the bypass valve is easy... cut the piping where the directions tell you to cut and put it on... the aem bypass will work with any aftermarket intake... and it is a good safety precaution... hydro locking a motor is extremely expensive and can be slved with the bypass valve...

ya cutting the pipes scares me though lol, what should be used to cut? ya my safety precautions for the CAI will be the bypass valve, the Injen heat shield/splash guard, and K&N's Dry Charger filter wrap that's water repellent...thanks again

If you're that worried about it, then just go short ram.

Otherwise, you're making a simple thing seem complicated bro.

iWish iCould make a video about this... i`ve never seen or heard of an actual account of someone so much as having their engine sputter from water being pulled in by their injen CAI. (or any cai for that matter). The only possible scenario where iCould imagine you being in danger is if the filter got submerged in water, and you shouldn`t drive an S chassis through a puddle that deep anyway, ne?

You may as well just keep an 8mm wrench in the glovebox and when it starts to rain, take the filter off the cai extension, put it on the short ram, and call it a day. It`d be a lot cheaper and easier than the bypass transplant. As for me, I know i`m never gonna have a problem with my filter being down there.

not sure if you know but aem sells different sizes when it comes to their bypass valves. just pick the right size and you're good to go.
