can someone give me a list of oil burn off?

Hi have 92 Nissan 240sx SE 5spd ka24de motor with 60k miles on it. 2 or 3 months ago i been getting this really really loud sound in front of my valve cover. i know its not no valve ticking cuz the sound i have is really freaking loud between 2 to 3 rpm. higher rpm I dont hear the annoying sound.... but i dont know I could be wrong. it could be a valve cuz i'm burning oil but not a whole lot. so can someone give me a a big list of things to check for oil burn-off. I was thinking it was my cams. since i have that noise in my engine and the cams are right there... so could it be my cams making that sound and do cams burn oil when going bad?

It's not your cams or valves
http://www.**********/faq/index.html
Go there and look for timing chain question and answers, it's either your timing chain tensioner or guides, maybe even both.

Same thing

They are notorious for that sound. Mine dissapears after even the slightest throttle increase tho. But usually its the chain tentioner / guides, remove the upper guide and if it goes away, voila! They are not a neccesity.

alright so the upper timing chain i replaced that with a new one and it did not fix the problem... so i guess that would mean its the chain tensioner right? how hard of a job is do that? and i need a pic of it i dont even know what the chain tensioner looks like. thanks please get back to me

Well

My mechanic checked mine out. I would assume the tensioner applies force to it so it doesn't move. The guide is just there to assist its movement. The guides usually make the noises. The tensioner if worn out could be the problem, but mostly people have issued with the guides. I don't know what they look like, but removing the valve cover, its right at the front of the engine.

To answer your original topic: Oil burners...

1) Valve Stem Seals =( Mine are dying
2) Oil Rings
3) Blown head gasket

Those are some reasons, the main ones I can think of.

i need to know what the tensioner looks like before i start messing around with it. and my oil burning..head gasekt is fine!, oil rings are fine, vavle steam seals dont know what they ard but i dont think its that. my oil burning i dont think its anything too major. i think it could be the oil pan gasket going bad. could i be right????

found something out why i might be burning oil. its the timing chain tensioner. this is what i read about on another nissan web site. the timing chain tensioner is Designed to keep the oil plug from popping out at high RPM. This tensioner has a modified oil plug that is non removable. It is a must for race engines running high oil pressure or RPM.... so if mine pop out I would be burning oil i believe.

Oil only burns and makes its way out of the exhaust if it makes it into the combustion chamber. It leaks out of oil pans. I don't know about the oil plug. Valve stem seals are 20 bucks, easy fix, just really time consuming. Especially on DOHC. Mine only blows oil if it idles for extended periods of time.

dont know but i really think it has something to do with my timing chain tensioner and that oil plug thats there. if i replace that and everything i'll see what happens with my oil.... then still acting up i'll try the valve steam seals

another question the timing chain tensioner could I use one from a 93 nissan altima 5 speed ka24de engine cuz i really dont have 50 dollars to buy it right now. and my altima is wrecked sitting behind my house
