Car shakes on cold start

Heres the story. I brought the car up from so cal to nor cal and the next morning I started the car but all of the sudden the car and motor start to shake pretty bad.I turned the car off and attempted to start the car again but I got the same result. I turned the car off again waited a few more mins then I started the car again it was still shaking so I then decided to rev the car up. After a few sec the car calmed down and the shaking stoped. Any idea what caused this? I'm afraid to start the car again in the morning.

DONT EVER rev the car right when you start it up, oil isn't in the head yet.

The shaking was most likely a cylinder that wasn't firing. The engine is balanced and timed so that all 4 cylinders fire at certain times, however is a certain cylinder isn't firing, its like skipping a beat, and it'll get thrown off.

Don't rev it up next time, just let it run for a bit, it should fire up, check your plugs, wires, and distirbutor (timing too). Make sure its all good.

After it warms up and all cylinders are on go drive it around a bit, see if it happens again. I don't think it has anything to do with the temperature, although it could-- i'm not mechanic.
