cat removal

is there any problems with just removing the catalytic converter? are there sensors after the cat that will get screwed up if i just replace it with a straight pipe? its a 1993 if that matters. Im just getting a hotshot header and wondering if i shud purchase a highflow cat or just hack it out. i live in winnipeg manitoba canada so i dont hafta worry about emmissions.

thanks.

no sensor problems... but dont decelerate from a high RPM without pushin the clutch in... mass nasty smelling fumes get into the car... i know...:barf:

Won't have any problems except emissions and it will be slightly louder.

Just pull off the cat and gut it . Everything will be fine

I also have a 93 S13, also with HotShot header. I'm running a Megan Racing cat-back exhaust with a built-in resonator and silencer on the tail pipe. The car doesn't sound ricey at all. It has a nice deep tone to it and I could a lot of compliments.

If you have an extra 30 bucks, buy a test pipe, seriously! I gutted my cat and it sounded like $hit. It had a hollow sound to it. The best way I could explain it was the exhaust would enter the chamber, expanding before being forced back into the remainder of the exhaust. In my opinion, this is what gave the hollow sound.

As far as any sensors, there aren't any and you won't screw anything up. Well, at least I didn't.

I replaced with a test pipe and it sounds much better and has a better sound and flow coming out of the tail pipe.

no sensors...just emissions and slightly louder, dont get caught though. its still illegal.

f*ck all of that..get a street legal, high flow cat and give a sh*t about the earth and our enviroment...having no cat will gain you tops a couple hp which u wont even feel...high flow cat has a good flow rate and is still legal, wont be as loud either...i ran no cat when i first got the car and it was obnoxiously loud.

Yeah, if you have the money by all means get a high flow cat. However, a high flow cat, the last time I checked was pretty expensive. I ran a test pipe because of cost, not hp. If money is not an option get the high flow.

Also, I don't know what setup you were running, but mine is not loud or obnoxious at all. Like I said I get lots of compliments on the sound of my exhaust.

Well, if you ask me the consenses is that test pipe does NOT = loud and obnoxious.

i dont think 'Consensus' is reached when it is the opinion of two people...

as for the price of the high flow cat, i got mine brand new off ebay for 50bucks(best offer)..20 bucks more than a test pipe, quieter, legal and environment friendly...1993240 your setup also has a built in resonator and silencer into it, my original setup when i bought the car was no cat, meinike muffler and straight thru pipe thats why it was loud..read a little more next time..i didnt mention anything about a test pipe..ooops.

Consensus (from Dictionary.com): An opinion or position reached by a group as a whole.

Well, maybe you were right. It wasn't reached by this group (this thread) as a whole, but rather the majority. My bad.

As for your purchase, congratulations. I couldn't find one that cheap. I guess you're just the man.

And for the test pipe, it was my opinion this thread was regarding a catylitic converter, which I would include a cat, test pipe, high flow cat or whatever else you wanted to include in place of the standard cat.

Iceman4, I will reiterate by saying, if you can get a high flow cat as cheaply as rocky, you should go for it. I know I would have if I would have found one at such a great price. The last time I checked they were approximately 150 bucks. I care about the enviornment, but I'm not a tree hugger either.

rocky2843 07-09-2006 02:16 PM

i love trees..they produce money...money for me to spend on high flow cats :thumb: :D

Wow! I didn't know that trees produce money. Da da da......... Iceman, f-it, get a test pipe just to piss off rocky. Or maybe, since Rocky cares so much for the enviornment and is so strongly opinionated, let him pay for your high flow cat. Hey, maybe he could buy me one too since apparently trees produce money in Jerz.

Good luck Iceman....whatever you choose to do!
