check engine light..please help
 

i just got the clutch changed in my ka24de ....and now 4 days later go to start my car and the check engine light came on so i turned off the car checked the dip stick and seen i had been driving with hardly any oil..i added some 2quarts and started it to see what happen until i can actually get my oil changed in the morning..since thìs happened at night....my questions are ..why didnt the oil Light come on what made the check engine light come on..and what could or did happen.....maybe if i take a battery termanel off it will restet? im sucha fool to forget to do the oil.. iknow ..any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks...

Dont ever reset the codes until you've checked them, obviously it's telling you you had a malfunction, check it first before you kill the motor. as far as the oil light, it prolly wasn't low enough for the sensor to care.

the cel and oil light are two different things. the cel should come on when a car is started and stay on for about a second or two then turn off. the oil light comes on when you have low pressure due to a weak oil pump,leaks, low on oil, or a faulty oil pressure sensor.

disconnecting the battery will clear your ecus memory and get ride of the cel. depending on what caused the cel to come on in the first place it may or may not come back on. disconnecting the battery however will not get rid of the oil pressure light.

Your ECU is located behind the kick panel on the right hand side, pop up the door sill, take the plastic nut off under the dash then pull off the kick panel towards the inside of the car. The ECU is secured via 2 10mm bolts. Take those off. Remove the white plastic bracket/clip thing on the side of the ECU by sliding it off. On the back of the ECU is a screw, that will be covered with clear tape if it has never been accessed. Break the tape then with the key in the on position, turn the screw clockwise til it stops (Note: DO NOT PUT ANY FORCE INTO THIS) leave it for 2 seconds, then turn it back. Their is a red LED on the back that will flash (so will the service engine light) a certain number of long pulses and short pulses. This will tell you why the check engine light is on. Decode this with one of many ecu code listings by searching, or buy yourself a chilton manual. The altima/240sx manual has a complete listing and will be the best $20 you spent. Once you've done this and addressed the issue turn the screw back to the right for two seconds then back again, remove the key the the ECU will be reset. =)
