clicking noise

when i'm driving my car periodically i hear this clicking noise. it sounds as if someone is clicking a pen like a thousand times. i can hear it from inside the car. what do you guys think it could be?

Bryan 12-03-2005 05:14 AM

upper timing chain guide maybe?

dak2007 12-03-2005 06:45 AM

i replaced my timing chain not even a month ago. the sound goes away every now and then it's not real consistant i just want to fix it before it becomes a problem.

the top guide under the valve cover sometimes breaks and rattles, you can take it off if you didn't when you replaced your chain as its not needed, thats all I can think of really without hearing it myself

dak2007 12-03-2005 07:00 AM

i replaced the guide because the kit said it was an improved guide and wouldn't break. could it be my fuel injectors? i heard once that fuel injectors were supposed to click. if that's the case would some sea foam help?

Bryan 12-03-2005 07:26 AM

fuel injectors will click, I don't think theres nothing really you can do to stop that because thats how they sound

LA_phantom_240 12-03-2005 11:22 AM

uh ive never actually heard injectors... theyre usually quiet and sit inside the fuel rail... It may just be a sticky lifter... im not 100% on what kind of lifters our motors have, but im used to working on my hon-duh motor in my acura, and its noisy as hell in the morning, but after i rev past 5k it gets really quiet. I live my acura... oh wait, we were talking about YOUR car here werent we?

dak2007 12-03-2005 11:42 AM

240s have lifters?

nsn240 12-03-2005 12:02 PM

i'd say fuel injectors or timiing chain

Preston 12-03-2005 09:19 PM

I didn't think 240's had lifters......I'm almost positive they don't

check the bolts in the surrounding area if its periodically its may not be mechanical.

is there something your doing in the car, I.E using AC,heater, chaning vents anything that happens where the noise follows

dak2007 12-04-2005 07:04 AM

no it just comes and goes. it's most noticable in the cold or when it's wet out.
