Crank Scrapers for the KA
2 Attachment(s)
Whats up guy's did a little bit of research on a crank scraper, wanted to know from other people's first hand experience if it works well. It happens that Kevin Johnson replied to my thread (the owner of crank-scrapers) he led me to the indepth info that I needed. Pretty much a crank scraper breaks down the windage loss proccess allow's the crank to move in rotation a little bit smoother and faster. For $50 dollars it is agreed to be a worthy investment.

so pretty much these crank-scrapers are just a sort of gasket? have you installed one of these?if so, any noticable gains? like I said before, i was thinking of puttin in those S13 cams and thought that if this mod was really worth it, since i was going to tear down the top end a little.. is there a whole lot involved to this mod? Just curious.. like i said, i'm still a noob, but if i try anything on this new motor, i have a friend who is an actual mechanic that actually knows the parts to a car to help me. it's all a learning process for me. if it's worth it, i'll mention it to him and maybe try it out

Let me break it down like this....
As RPM's raise in the crank case of the engine there is turbulance and windage that is created, that actually makes you lose HP. A crank scraper breaks and stops the windage process so that the crank can gain RPM's more efficiently, so technicaly, the engine is gaining HP as RPM's raise with a crank scraper. For 50 bucks to gain HP I find it to be a good deal..... |
looks like it would just stop the oil from splashing and prevent the windage... for the price, i'd try it... or go knife-edged crank and solve the problem that way :)
|
For $50 I'm going to do this mod after christmas.
People have claimed nothing but good results with the crank scrapers. I wonder how much rev would increase with the scraper and a knife edged crank, guess someones going to have to find out. |
pretty sexy! so its somewhat like a baffled oil pan =0P ?

ok dont get me wrong BIG V.
I do respect your knowledge quest for the ultimate N/A 240sx but Man, Maybe its just me but the "crankscraper" sounds like the most useless mod I have ever heard of. I meen dont get me wrong i'm not hate'n or any thing" to each his own" I always say but for the turbulance I thought this is what the dampner on the crank pulley was for. sorry just my 2 and a half cents. nothing against you find BIG V. Its just my opinion. much love dog!!!!! |
^^^^ Double posted.......
It may sound useless to you. I thought it was too at some point in my life......... I guess people that own a scraper really says it works. If scrapers didn't work they wouldn't come standard in most porche engines......LOL |
cool . it was just my 2 cents or maybe just 1 cent LOL.
oh and i dont know why the hell it posted twice thats ****'d up |

Nissan uses them in many of their engines. Here is a pic of a crank scraper louver in the SR20: http://www.crank-scrapers.com/SR20%20STOCK%20TRAY.jpg |
Hey Kevin
Will I need additional gaskets for the KA24de scraper? Or can I just use the scraper for the DE as a gasket? I'm a bit confused with the design. |

When will the trays be up for sale? I would like one for my build, I will also be purchasing the scraper as well, being that NISMO is asking 8grand for the fully counter weighed crank, rods, and pistons..........
Thanks for the info Kevin, your really helping the Nissan/Datsun community with better to offer parts...... |

Thanks for the info Kevin, your really helping the Nissan/Datsun community with better to offer parts...... I just heard from Kas Kastner -- was very important in Nissan Motorsports. He is looking for new Triumph six and four performance parts for an upcoming book. He was heavily involved with Triumph racing back in the 1960s. Car people just like cars no matter the brand. ;) |
Those look awesome Kevin. Big V. Thanks for the heads up on this great product. I too am going to try an go for an awesome N/A build. I got some ideas in mind and I may have to PM you for some input on some of them. Thanks again to both of you.
