Damn Heatshields

Well my exhaust is still factory and I have recently been getting some horrible sounds from the thing. After half an hour with a grinder, screwdriver, and my right foot kicking wildy, it was all off.

I noticed there seems to be two mufflers though? after the cat and the small resonator. Is that what it is?

Texas240 10-11-2004 04:04 PM

Indeed the 'little' one is a resonator.... it must be done away with.
;)

It all

It all must go soon, I smell the dirty rotten egg smell more frequently now. And she doesn't breath anymore, so everything from the cat back will be replaced. Just trying to find a decent muffler that isn't too ricey, clean, and isn't too expense. I don't need no dual 5" tip. lol

Texas240 10-11-2004 06:02 PM

i got mine, sounds good, not ricey. it's an off brand, but it's also the only one that didn't sound bad to me. I'm keepin the KA, so i put the pipe up to 2.5 cat back.
$150 total. looks stock, sounds mean... just the way i like it >:)

my cat rattled so much when i stopped, i hated it, i just bought the pdm high flow one, thank god its all gone

I went w/ something quiet and still gave performance. Dynomax super turbo muffler. I also got rid of the resonator and welded on a glasspack. sounds very nice. just a little humm...Now she is purring like one bad kitty.:thumb:

re

Yep, i was thinking 2.5" glasspack and the dynomax, heard good things about their mufflers. Wanna know if theres a bad side to em tho...anything worth mentioned you weren't happy with?

1viaDRFT 10-11-2004 08:57 PM

yea i was curious..what casues that rotten eg smell i smell it too....i got a little crack where my collector and cat meet and is right inder the driver seat and after some spirited driving i smell the rotten egg smell wtf is that?

NismoKa 10-11-2004 11:14 PM

I am not sure of names for these items, but the material in the cat basically absorbs some of the bad gases in the exhaust, the chemical reaction i guess makes it smell that way. But we get cleaner air! yay

Bye bye cat

Bad Cat

I think the smell is the fact that the catalyst in the converter is no longer able to perform its function. If your gonna get a new cat get a high flow just to let it breathe again could free up some HP.
