Here's a picture (I hope this works) Short instructions are set #1 cylinder to top dead center. to be sure of this you must remove your valve cover and look at the lumps on the camshaft. With #1 at TDC the intake should be pointing at about 10 o'clock and the exhaust at about 2 o'clock. Now put your distributor in so that the rotor tip is pointing in the direction of the #1 plug wire (the bottom left one) The pointer will turn as you slide it in so you have to back it up a little and maybe try a couple of times before it sits correctly.
