electrical problem

hmm im not sure where this post should go so im sorry if i posted it in the wrong place :bigok:

i recently bought a car and it has a electrical problem in it that i cant figure out. every time i take out my key nothing electrical works. for example the seatbelts dont go back, the clock resets, headunit resets. i checked all the fuses none of them are blown. i heard it could be a ground but i heard it also isnt a ground. i dont know anything about electrical stuff. so if anyone knows whats wrong please help me out and tell me whats wrong that would be great =)

that's messed up. it might be a ground. when you run your car, your alternator is your power source, so you're getting probably 14-16 volts. when you shut your car off, the alternator is off, you might have a bad battery or something. check the battery cables too.

does your car have trouble starting?

nope it has no problem starting. the only problem is the resetting and stuff. everything else works fine

well actually, there is an accessory ground and/or power.... follow the wires off your battery and see if anything looks strange on the other end.

im having this exact same problem. i whipped out my multimeter and the alt only puts out 12.5 volts when running. and all the accessories come on when i rev above 2250rpms. i only noticed 1 ground wire off the battery to the engine but maybe im stupid and not seeing it?

The ground

There is the one main one on the left side of the engine that goes to the intake manifold. It goes from the battery terminal, to a chassis ground near the battery plateau, and then up to the manifold. Mines a 92 s13. I upgraded mine to 4 gauge because the factory wire is pinner 8gauge, and found a new place for the chassis ground. It only cost me 30 bucks at a local car audio shop.

i fixed mines. mine was just a burned wire under the dash... thanks for all the info guys =)
