Fan

Is the radiator fan supposed to be spinning at all times? My SOHC spins all the time, I never really paid much attention to it before, but as the car has gotten older, it sometimes seems like I'm behind a turbine.

My old Volkswagen fan only came on at certain temperatures. But my 240 spins all the time. Is this normal?

Thanks.

you have a clutch fan on the car it is designed to spin as the temp goes up... but it can still spin at all times... as long as you can turn the fan with the motor off then it is still in good shape...

well, not turn the fan alot, if it keeps on spinning a bunch after you let go of it, you've got a bad clutch. It should move some, but should have some resistance when you push it.

Thanks for the replys. But does the fan turn with the engine speed, or does it turn on its own.

It just seems to have gotten alot louder, like i'm behind a turbine.

Mine spins as soon as the car is started.

I did try spinning the fan, while the engine is off. The fan can be moved, it has some resistance when moving the fan by hand.

at a certain temp, the clutch will kick in & help cool the car... so sometimes it just matches engine revs, but like when you're at a light & the engine is hot, the clutch should kick in.
I just put a new clutch on mine, and yes, it always sounds that loud. if you've checked it for play, and you have no cooling issues, turn your radio up & quit worrying.

It's supposed to spin most of the time and if it doesn't when you've been driving it for awhile then I'd get it checked out. My fan guard fell the other day and my fan ate it. Now my fan is shorter and i got a fourth of my fan guard missing. why I don't know but zi pties are great!

Not worried about it, as there is no cooling issues. The fan broke off last year and a new fan clutch was put in, but it seems louder than before.

The fan seems to turn with engine speed at all times though. The fan spins up as soon as the car is started and then increase on idle if gas is applied.

Take that Power Robbing fan off anyway and use the electric one. If you don't believe the benefits just take 10 min. and run your car without the mechanical fan. Wakes the KA right up!

my fan just ate into the fan guard and now my fan is missing one plate. What a day. Anyway, I encounter the fan problem also, which is that my fan will keep running all the time. A bad clutch, after spending $50 at autozone, that fan finally back to normal. So fan clutch is the 'bad boy'

werd. i just put dual 10" fans on my car, and holy throttle response batman. It's like a whole new world. Plus, it works good if you beat the **** out of you car drifting, and you just want to let it sit to cool off for a bit....flip a switch, and let the fans blow

a fan clutch is kind of like the clutch in your car it locks up at a certain temp to help with cooling the motor...the fan will soin all the time but it will spin faster after it has locked up...

you can remove the mechanical fan and install electric fans in your car... that is one suggestion that i agree with...
