Free mods?

Anyone know any free/cheap mods I can do.
I just got my 240 and thought I might try a few of them before I take it out tonight.

Also, I tried search and it was useless b/c everytime someone ever used the word free or mod it returned the threard, so either search sucks or I suck at useing it , lol....

Thanks for the help....

it not very good for your car but when you run it take out your stock intake air filter. You'll notice a little better engine response cuz there no filter to restrict airflow.
:dunno:

You can get a cone filter and the adapter to attach it for pretty cheap...Take out that Y-piping underneath your stock air box...Take out anything you dont need inside the car...I don't know (or cant think of) anything else right now:dunno:

Thanks for the replys.

I got a MAF adaptor from another car and made it fit my 240 and then ran some pipeing from what I'm assumeing is the EGR back into the top of the cone filter...

It required some serious adaptaption but I made a MAF adaptor made for a SOHC ford 1.8L fit our car, lol....

anyway,,, what do ppl think of removeing the what i am assueming is the EGR stuff, you know that black box that connects the exhuast to my intake... is it hard? good for the engine?... let me know...

I think you're talking about the AIV removal, and I've done that and would reccomment it. It's completly free, helped my car out, and made the engine bay look a LITTLE less stuffed full. There's a sticky on ********** under technical for more info

Other than that, do the cheap teun-up stuff, like plugs, filter, new O2 sensor, etc. Cleaning your throttle body would also help your cause. other than that. . you can try and lose some weight in the 240, remove the AC if you dont' need it, thats about it that I can think of

tighten your throttle cable.
wire in an electric fan(almost free from junkyard)
partially strip interior
remove clutch damper

Does it really help if you remove the clutch dampener??? Thats on the passenger side under body and connects directly to the clutch slave, right???

Also I disconnected the y-pipe on the intake and installed my electric fans, I put it on my website.

Hope it helpshttp://home.bellsouth.net/P/PwP-miamidrift

Good write-ups on the fans, how much did those cost you? I'm looking into ditching thr stock crappy fan and putting in a couple 10"s.

With the intake filter, why not just remove the AIV system all together? No downside, and helps performance a tad and frees up some much needed space.

thanks for the comment. I was gonna get two 10" that would have cost me $120 for both but they ran out of them so I had to get 12". they cost me $140. Which I think is good considering I heard the flex-a-lite fans are about $100 each.

Depending on the weather where you live you could probably get by with just one fan.

Do you know any write-ups on the AIV???

There's a sticky on ********** under technical, and it's pretty good. it has a full walkthrough, it's what I used when I did it. Just make sure to plug all the lines or you'll idle bad. And it's a sinch to put back in if you need/desire to.

Yeah, well we get by now on 1 fan, I'm looking into scrapping the clutch fan, however $150 for a couple fans isn't in the budget, lol.

hmmm...cheap upgrades....hmmm...

the first thing that comes to mind is one of those $20 chips you can buy at Ebay...they said it would increase the cars HP by 20....haha...i have doubts about that...i guess its worth a try....

BTW: strip the interior of the car if u want:confused:

hitokiri_808 07-15-2004 09:06 PM

that $20 "chip" is really a $ 0.10 resistor. as for it making 20hp... more like 0.20hp. if you really want to try it, just stop at radio shack.

as for a free mod, empty out your trunk and vaccum the floor. if it don't make your car faster, at least it will look nicer. lol
