How to tell which distributor on a stock 89

I have an 89 w/ a completely stock engine. I have to do a tune up to get it to pass smog and one of the things I want to replace is the distributor.

I've found a lot of threads stating that there are two different distributors.. but none that tell how to spot the difference. I could take the old one off and take it to the parts store, but I want to buy all the parts online...

So is there a visual differnce, or marking that I should be looking for?

While I'm at it, is there anyone in the CA eastbay that wants to help w/ the work? There's free beer involved.

Once it passes smog I'll be moving it to the for sale section too, so you could help work on it, find out all the ways it's crappy, get free beer, and then buy the car for a really good price. :beerchug:

Thanks

'89's use a number of mitsubishi and hitachi parts not just the dist. the hitachi dist is smaller thou. just go to any parts store and ask to see the dist cap. that is is unless you still have the factory cap which will have the diamond star symbol on it if it's a mitsu and the something else if it's a hitachi.

if you have the smaller of the two you have a hitachi if not you have a mitsubishi. at least thats how i found out

EDIT- i could be wrong in my statement above about the hitachi being smaller it might be the other way around. i honestly don't remember, but one is smaller than the other.
