Its a waste. I've only seen up to ~ 170 rwhp on an NA KA. And, you can turbo that bish just as cheap....

SO you have only seen up to 170WHP? Only 30HP over stock?

Not to sound like a bench racer but my Extrude honed intake & P&P cyl head will give me 30HP.

I love that excuse..."just turbo it". Hell if someone cant build a competent NA motor what makes you think they can build a turbo motor..Oh thats righ tTHEY dont. They have someone do it for them.

Aznplayer911. If someone has to "inspire you" to go NA then you are building a car for all the wrong reasons. You are already skeptical. So I would highly doubt even if someone was to show proof. You would disagree.
Not to mention. I would be more concerned with how long the engine lasts making good HP numbers than how much. I'm sure I can hit 400 WHP with the SOHC, but it may break right after I dyno it.

Just my observation.

Notice I said WHP. Stock will only yield about 132 whp (in ideal conditions). If you can show me a dyno of an NA KA that yields more than 170 whp, have at it. I know that there are some SCCA cars that have the KA-E at around 240 rwhp or so, but they also have about $8k in the engine alone...

As far as the most I've seen on a KA24DE NA, Rich Bjornson messed around with some high compression pistons and a few other things, but IIRC, he just topped 180 rwhp.... And for the money he invested in all the work, he could have probably had about 350 rwhp with a decent turbo setup....

So yo are saying a "good" turbo set up is cheaper than NA.
For the avg joe who doesnt know how to piece one together
Just for turbo set up & NO electronics
Turbo manifold $400
Turbo $600( if you et a good cheap one)
Oil & coolant lines $60
GOOD fittings( Earls for example) $20/EA
Good FMIC $400
Good IC piping $250
Ext WG( Tial) $400
MBC( if you dont make one) $50

This is a VERY crude list with mostly underestimated prices. NOT including labor.
That is roughly $2000. I didntgo into cams, electronics ect.. because most of that is also needed for the NA app.
But when you look at the cost of maintaining each of them. How can you say the turbo car is cheaper. I have been building turbo & NA cars for about 18ish years. I know that in the long run the turbo car is MUCH more expensive.

I'm by no means saying not to do it. Turbo cars are "nice" & you have have the how do the "ricers" say it.....pssshhh sound ( one of the reasons most people put on a turbo kit) & if cared for properly the turbo engine could last a while. But most of these people noadays I have come across cant even read spark plugs properly & want to build 500HP Sr swap, ect..
Too much of daddy's money & no ability to do anything themselves.

I'm not refering to anyone in this post
(unless you see yourself that way). I'm just saying most people now just say...."I want a turbo kit cause everyone has one" & they dont even know what suck, squeeze, bang, blow is.

I'm not saying that you can build a turbo car cheaper than staying NA. I'm saying, if you want to get as much out of your car with NA power, you're going to have to spend some cash. But, if you just put a little more money with that, you can have twice the output...

Hah... Yeah, my profile is old on here. And, yes, I've had a variety of jobs. But, what does that have to do with my knowledge of cars? Absolutely NONE.

Next job: Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems for the U.S. Air Force....

Good for you. However, just because I'm young, DO NOT assume that I do not know what I'm talking about... The waiter thing was a part time thing while I was in school.

By the way, i'm still waiting on a dyno chart with more than 170 rwhp from an NA KA...

Jerome, I never said you dont know what you are talking about.
crimsontide240 said you "would smoke me".
I just said you have known me for less than 2 months. people are already ASSuming things. Thats cool. I have better things to do.

You can wait all you like for a dyno sheet. I'm not looking for one, nor do I care. But you have to be almost retarded to not get 40 HP from a vehicle engine. Regardless of what engine it is.
