issues with my 240

so my 89 240 is starting to run a little better but i am having some issues with the electrical part. my car wants to cut out and die when any electrical load is put on the engine, like headlights. needless to say i cant run it at night. oh and during the day when im driving, the widsheild wipers like to come on by themselves, my chimes go of and my guages start going crazy when i use the turn signal. any ideas. help

I hate to say it man.. but sounds like you have one of the 240 chassis that has faulty wiring. early on in production..... a sort of copper wire was used and over time began to rot from within.... with all those issues... that is what you may have.

My only suggestion is to trace all of your grounds clean them up and hooked them back up. Its not that many of them.

Also make sure your battery and alternator are good to go. You can check the load across the alternator with a multi-meter however you have to take the battery to autozone etc to have it checked with a machine.

not that many however.. in the how to section there is a place were you can download FSM's

in electronic schematic section.. all the grounds are listed with pictures. in total maybe about 7-6 major grounds.

thank you for the info!!! i checked my grounds this morning and in 5 minutes i found the problem. the issue was with my ground wire at the back of the motor next to the firewall. the connector was all burnt up and not even connected. i reconnected it and all my issues went away. thank you for the info.
