just replaced head gasket wont start!!!
so i just finished putting back together my 89 240 sohc and when i tried to start it everything just lost power and would not have any power again unless i disconnected the battery and reconnected it. everything comes on but everytime i try to start it i hear the starter click and no power. the battery is good all the fuses are good. there are two discrepencies though... near the starter there is a plug just sitting there i have no idea what it goes to and also in the fuse box where the ign coil/antiskid is totally missing there is no connector or plug just a hole is that a problem??? hmmmm please help

so first off, did the engine start before you replaced the head gasket? also, how is it that you know that the battery is good?
|
the engine did start before hand until the blown head gasket. also the battery came out of my other car and produces 750 CCA so it should have worked
|
at this point it sounds like the starter is done for.

also, even a loose connection or corrosion with cause the clicking, i'm still more inclined to believe that the fault lies in the battery though.
|
maybe u guys are right, ill try out a new battery and see if that fixes the prob.

okay just got it started !!!!yay!!!! but if i just let it idle when it gets just below 1000rpm it slowly bogs down and dies. it does however run fine if i rev it and keep it above 1000 rpms anyone have any ideas

it was a loose connection from the battery. so i fixed that and now it starts. I was told by a buddy to clean out my idle air controller. he said that could be why its dyin on me so thats work for tomorrow
|
yay another fixed 240 on the road yay!!!!!!!!
|
ok so now my car runs like ****!!! i hear a ticking from myhead cover, i adjusted the idle needle so it would idle at about 800-1000rpms. it still idles funny and dies sometimes. Also it is getting harder to start than the first time i started it. hmmm

when was the last time you had the alternator tested?
|
Check for vacuum leaks also. That could be causing your bad idle. Or your MAF could be dirty.
Not sure about the starting thing. Your battery might be draining. ^ which means your alternator may be bad. Check into that. |
ive removed all my emissions and vacuum lines and my maf looks brand new!!! i checked my coil and its pushing 10V is that right???
