ka idles like dildos

as an auto 240, idle was fine. didn't have any problems until we finished the 5speed swap.

it likes to idle a lot higher now. i've messed with the iacv, no luck.

tap the gas, maybe 200rpm and it will shoot up to 1500, sometimes 2k.

it decides on its own when to drop back down to normal idle, ie 750.

sometimes takes 15 seconds, sometimes 5minutes.

any ideas?

**** is really bugging me, especially in traffic, drive thru's. fawk

so nothing else was changed other than the tranny?

MS!3 10-24-2009 10:17 PM

yep, just the tranny.

i just found out something neat. auto ecu's have a higher idle to spin the torque converter. if installed in a 5speed chassis they usually bump the idle up about 300- 500rpm depending on how your iacv is set.

usually takes a couple of minutes for the idle to drop back down. same problem that im having.

installing a 5speed ecu should do the trick.

silviaks2nr 10-24-2009 10:51 PM

try the 5spd ecu. make sure the neutral position is properly wired as well. Never hurts to check your tps > too.

Nickmerrone 10-25-2009 12:01 AM

believe it or not. i had the same problem,, just block of the hose coming up to the intake for the IACV, and it should run alot better..thats the deal with mine anyways.. no idea why..

MS!3 10-25-2009 01:43 AM

Ill try the ecu first. If its still iffy ill look into what you said nick.

Thanks dudes

the auto ecu will cause the idle speed to differ a bit but i don't think that's the problem. it sounds like the iacv is at fault. there is a plunger and spring hidden behind some sort of epoxy, next to the adjustment screw. i recommend you take the plunger out and clean it.

How do dildos idle exactly?

By not vibratingIi guess :dunno:and what fun is a non-vibrating dildo? I mean nobody wants that...

HHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
if i wasn't so lazy i'd quote that and put it in my signature.

MS!3 10-25-2009 10:19 PM

lmao

ill look into the iacv as well ramos. i'm not sure though, doesn't seem likely it would just go out during a 5speed swap.

jramosthe1st! 10-26-2009 09:29 AM

it's not that is goes out, what happens is that the plunger is more like a vacuum line. it tends to get plugged up with carbon. so the ecu ups the idle speed to insure enough air is coming in. it's probably the most common problem with all 240s that many don't find a fix for because the solution is hidden.

MS!3 10-26-2009 02:34 PM

Cool info ramos. Ill do that first. I'm hoping ill be able to get to the plunger without removing ****.

Nickmerrone 10-27-2009 12:21 PM

keep us updated on what happens. im not in this thread because theres no pictures and i dont know how to read.
