ka24de pros of keeping and rebuilding it?
My goal is 11.9 thats what I want to run WHILE driving this 92 240 sx as a daily driver.
I have talked with some people some say keep the ka24 and some say go sr20. I do plan on turboing the ka24 in the future but this is naturally aspirated...so.... i'll continue what are the pros of keeping this motor and rebuilding it? Is my goal easily obtainable? (after turbo of course) while I have the motor out what mods should I do other then rebuilding it? where can I get a decent rebuild kit? I appreciate the help im looking to get into this car and get out of my mustang by the beginning of the summer. I have unlimite resources for money (credit card haha) soooooo Let me know what has to be done right... I do everything right the first time so calculating a plan would be awesome. thanks club 240 |
I say keep the KA24, its a good motor when properly built.
I say rebuild the motor with pistons, etc. Then get a good sized turbo. You should be able run 11s and still keep it D/D. If you really want big HP numbers, then you could always swap in a RB26 or V8 but thats pretty $$$. |
you have alot of experience with the ka24's?
you live like right up the street from me haha wouldnt mind the help once we get this thing apart |
new rods, pistons, rings, ARP head studs, stronger valves, valve springs, etc, more aggressive cams, knife edge the crank, crank scraper, copper head gasket, port & polish the head, bigger injectors, upgrade the fuel pump, remap the ECU. These alone should get you good results and get your motor ready for turbo.

Here's a few of them.... http://www.dragtimes.com/Nissan-240S...slip-2959.html http://www.dragtimes.com/Nissan-240S...lip-10531.html http://www.dragtimes.com/Nissan-240S...lip-10519.html In any situation a rebuild would be critical, and you can internally build it to withstand more boost. To keep it NA for the time being you would be fine with the 9.0:1CR (wiseco), and Eagle rods. Cheap easy set up ready for turbo charging. |
11.9:1 is mighty high for a street car. High idle and expensive fuel = no longer a DD. I think 10.5:1 is about prime for a street driven car. Rebuild is always good.

Ronnycage, Im always down to help out a fellow 240-Lover especially in NJ. As for experience and questions, my man Big Vinne(posted above) knows basically everything about these motors, he is the pimp of the KA.
And were u talkin 11.9 in the 1/4 mile, not compression right (like Phantom said) |
i say for a drag car keep the ka24de, def potential for those times with some good tires
|
Make it a straker dude! 2.6L KA would be sick. Thats my plan. Brian Crower just came out with a kit, but i haven't seen it on their website yet. It should be on there soon.
