Leaky power steering pump? How do you know?

I went to Good year and they said that my power steering pump was leaking. They showed me all the power steering pump fluid on my steering rack and told me to replace it.

When i bought the car from my friend's brother he told me that that it's leaking somewhere. I took a look at the p/s fluid reservoir and the 2 hoses seemed a little greasy to me and it might be a leaky seal or a cracked hose.

So my question is.. how can you tell for sure if the pump itself is leaky or if its just the hoses? question2... are the power steering reservoir hoses the same as any rubber hose i can buy at autozone?

Thanks!

Do what I did - take some engine cleaner, spray down the p/s pump and all the lines, wipe dry with a rag, then start the car up and let it run for 10-15 minutes. You could drive around but if it's raining or dirty out then it'll just make it harder to find the leak.

After 10-15 minutes, pull out some paper towels and wipe everything related to the p/s system. If you find yourself wiping some p/s fluid off something, then you've narrowed it down.

i had the same problem with my 240.. It turned out that the bolt that holds the pressure lines came loose and dumped fluid evrywhere.. but i also replaced the lines from the reservoir....

hope that helped!!!!
