motor compatibility??
 

are there any other cars that used the KA24DE that would go right into the 240sx engine compartment? I am picking up a 95 240sx auto trans car that needs a motor and was wondering if i could source an enginr from anywher other than a 240?

No...Maybe...Definatley not the Altima because its front wheel drive. The frontier MIGHT but I doubt it...I believe the blocks are different.

I believe one of Nissan's pickup trucks had the same engine, but you'd probably still have better luck finding one out of a 240, they are abundant.

Basically...Its not worth trying to find out for yourself. Post a thread in the wanted section something is bound to come up :thumb:

You can use the 1981-83 NAPS-z front sump engine block (200sx s12).
If you want a high rev, smaller displacement those are the blocks you want to use. Come in 2.0 and 2.2 dislplacement.
There is also the NAPSZ (z18et, TURBO) only manufatured in Japan from 1978-82. All KA/napsz heads are swappable to these blocks and all parts are interchangeable including transmissions...
The z18~22s/e/et's come with forged and fully counterweighed L20b crankshaft, rod length is slightly shorter than KA, but the pin to piston assembly is longer, although the deck hieght of KA and NAPS-z are the same....
I left a pic of the z18et, the blocks are almost identical casting......

are those engines readily available in the states? you say they came in a 200sx? that could be a really fun little motor to play with.

USDM 1981 200sx s12 came with the 2.0 litre NAPS-Z
USDM 1982-83 200sx s12 came with the 2.2litre NAPS-Z
The NAPS-Z heads are crap with only 8 valves, so its a pretty crapy anemic head. But since there is KA it is swappable for a better performance with the SOHC 12 valve or the DOHC 16valve.
I am in the process of building a frankenstien 2.2 litre NAPS-Z high rev with the KA DOHC head Turbo. Pretty fun projects and the blocks are dirt cheap. You may want to do one of 2 things if you stay N/A either clover leaf weld the head " at any head shop", or bump up the internal CR pistons to 9.1- 11.1 CR.
The z18et needs to be imported, but the turbo mani bolts directly to the SOHC KA head......

im by no means saying anything you said is wrong but you would think nissan would have changed the name to a 220sx.that seems to be how they do things.kinds strange..thought they named all the usdm cars that way.change the motor size,change the name?

Well here is a closer pic of the naps you can see the blocks are identical to that of the KA24e. Notice that the valve cover, and the exhaust mani are direct fits "to name a few" with the same screw and bolt patterns, even pay close attention to the engine mounts the locations on the blocks are identical....... KA engines as you can see succeded its anemic NAPSz predecessor, yet the blocks remained the same........
As you can see the NAPS-z defect lies in the head with only 8 valves atomization of fuel to air is horrible, KA is nothing more but an updated NAPS-Z with 12 or 16 valves. Better atomization, better performance, and the removal of the exhaust spark plugs.
The heads have an identical design yet the NAPSz maximizes port size, but made the ports square not round giving it horrible flow numbers as well. Due to the fact that the intake only has 1 valve per cylinder, MPI "intake mani" is not compatible between the NAPS-Z and KA heads....

Hey fast One got some VG pics for you of the VG in an s12 1987-88...... The TB of the VG can be used for the KA, but it's only 56mm from what I understand it only adds more torque...........

No.... Nissan truck engines will not work in a 240sx, although the heads themselves are interchangeable. The difference why is due to the fact that the trucks have a rear oil sump, and the 240sx uses a front oil sump.... You would have to either redesign the oil pan and sump, or infact change cross members and suspension.. Either way those swaps are a biotch, they are possible, but pointless.

Well if im not mistaken, some era of 200sx's had the vg30 in it... ill have to check up on it though
