you guys clean your throttle body?
car won't start because of a throttle cleaning? whiskey tango foxtrot
heres a timeline of it:
1. removed intake/ unplugged maf sensor/ all hoses
2. cleaned tb with carb cleaner
3. removed 6-point engine grounds cause i felt like it.
4. reconnected all intake/ plugged maf/ hoses
5. took it out for a spin...5 mins later, it took a crap. threw a code.
6. symptoms include: stalls/ dies at idle, idles below normal, won't rev past 3000, if i try to WOT it, it'll bounce from 2-3k back and forth back and forth. engine jumping around violently
7. unplugged brake booster to run some seafoam, idle jumped up to 1200 when open to air, of course the idles went back down when pouring the seafoam. reconnected multi-grounds.
8. ran it for half an hour, still idling rough. white smoke, the usual.
9. next morning, won't even start. crank-no-start situation. seems like an ignition problem but, i cant get the car running to check for spark.
10. might've flooded it trying to get it to start, smelled fuel under the hood. no fluid leaks underneath the car after 2 days though.
i'm suspecting its definately the ignition then.
-plugs replaced less than 10,000 miles ago
-plug wires were replaced around the same time
-replaced the rotor back in October.
we're working on getting a scan tool. no one seems to have one for OBD1 imports and Nissan won't lend one out to me
ordered new plugs and O2 sensor just in case, god knows i'll need to change that anyway. what gets me is how a simple TB cleaning could lead to an ignition failure. we'll never really know what happened until i scan it though. IACV? ECU trying to adjust itself? what do you think?
EDIT: I figured it out. it was the MAF plug wires. one of them 'broke' loose.

an update:
i went back out and tried to start it again. a little smoke. smoke out the tail pipe means there might be some combustion going on. but not much. battery light was flashing so, it might just be a cold weather starting problem. I hope thats all it is. I can't fathom this much of a problem coming from a simple TB cleaning. but, then again, i haven't taken automotive electronics class yet.
