NEED HELP PLEASE!.! Over heating
Ok i got my car back up and running today its a 1990 240 (ka24e)... And the thermastat started out ok it read normal it was in the middle i drive for about 10 to 15 minutes and then i turn the car off for about maybe 5 minutes turn it back on and it was all the way in the hot zone i let it sit and idle and then the thermastat lowered back down and read normal again .. then as i kept goin thermastat kept goin hire after i drove for a while.. but when i would hit the brake it would rise more and when i accelerate it would lower down.. i drove it in the hot zone for about 5 to 10 minutes and nutin happen to the car didnt shut off or nothing so ....Now my question is is it my car that is over heating or is it just the thermastate gauge is wrong ??
Please any help would be appreciated maybe if you had the same problem let me know how you fixed it... thanks |
Try replacing your thermostat first, then worry about other stuff.

if the temp keeps rising at idle or while in motion i'd say that there is a blockage somewhere. possibly the thermostat is staying closed. so replacing the thermostat is a good place to start. while you're at it make sure you bleed the air out.
|
Ok then i guess i will try that .. but not to sound like a newb but what do you mean bleed the air out.. and how do you do it ??

s13 temp gauge is notorious for incorrect readings.

If you mean the gauge is changing instantly when you change throttle position it is the sensor. Look on the front of your intake manifold, there will be 2 wires going into a red plastic clip/sensor. Wiggle or hit that.

I had the same problem, stupid high temp thermostat. I am running with out one, never had the problem again.
|
so what? you suggest take out the thermastat and run with out one?
