oil change. 10W-what???

alright dudes....i was wondering whats better or whatever for a KADE really. Ive been running 10w-30. I was told by this kid i work with that he runs 5w-30 in his B18 honda. Says that the import motors run better on 5w. ~But i also have seen people running and been told to run 10w-40. So.....anyone-please enlighten me. thanx guys

10w30 is about the standard for all makes because it is suitable for most climates. the reasons you'd want a thicker or thinner oil would be due to excessive cold start up temps or prolonged running in higher temps. also, as an engine ages, and bearing clearances increase, it is advisable to switch to a thicker oil. these are the cliff notes, there's more to it but this about sums it up.

1991se240sx 08-07-2009 11:39 AM

yea-the winters are shytty here. it'll be 30* one day then -5* the next. summers are just average 75-85 on most days. evry now and again it'll jump up to mid to high 90's. But thanx for the break down

Biggamehit 08-08-2009 12:25 AM

yeaup so you guys reading who come from states with multiple climates, take this in to account. one thing i hate about multiple climates is tuning. you must have maps for cold and hot if you daily the car.....

1991se240sx 08-08-2009 08:12 AM

wow.....thats crazy. Makes sense tho. mines a daily but nothin done to it which requires tuning. But at the same time-ive heard nothin but horror stories about 240's and winter driving. when it snows-on average its a good 6-8". at most...10-12". so im tryin to put her up for the winter and come out swingin next spring
