Plug Wire not Staying Plugged
 

I'm posting about my brother's '91 SX. He's been having troubles with the #4 Plug Wire staying in. We replaced the plugs and the wires last night, and that worked for a while, but the #4 wire came out of the engine again. The #4 plug usualy has some oil on it (we've pulled it several times trying to figure this out). Could there be something wrong with the timing? I can't seem to find a reason why the wire keeps coming unpluged. His engine leaks (maybe burns) oil. I dunno if that helps, just throwing it out. All help would be great.

Couple things I can think of.

1. oil in the plug means the plastic gaskget between the valve cover and engine isn't working right, buy another gasket for $18 and fix that before it becomes a big issue. Might ne irrelevant to your probem, however getting that fixed is essential.

2. In my old celica, a piece of the wire that attaches to the spark plug, the seal that pops into the valve cover had came off and was stuck, causing the new plug to not be able to stay in. Make sure nothing is blocking the circle, and the seal where it pops in isn't blocked or anything.

3.could be a pressure leak because oil is getting into plugs, which would cause the wire to pop out.

I had the same problem before and it was that the spark plugs needed tightening. now I have no problemo

also do not over tighten them, this could be the problem also. If you over tighten you could strip your threds and cause combustion leek

good suggestions, either of those could easily be causing it.
