Rattling sound
i bought a 91 hatch with Ka24DE. when it was idle, there was this umm... rattling sound? im not sure what it is and its annoying. like REALLY annoying.
i read up on it and found that its most likely the timing belt guide. if u take it out, it no longer rattles. but i dont kno i wanna make sure b4 i take out anything important. help help? |
More then likely it's the guides or tensioner.
|
Mine has made that sound ever since I bought it. The guy I bought it from swears he just had the timing chain changed right before I bought the car. My mechanic says it's normal for a car with over 100,000 miles to sound like that.... I'm not so sure I'm convinced yet. Can't stand that rattle.

arite cool. i dont see any guides i think they were already taken out so its most likely the tensioners. u kno how much it would cost to fix that?

=\ ok thanx alot guys

mine rattles at idle also.....but when i depress the clutch pedal a little bit-but not engaging the clutch- it goes away. I need to adjust the clutch pedal, also, because it has too much free play. Adjusting the pedal won't make the rattle go away I don't think. Time to FAQ! lol

yea mines stops rattling at about... 1100 rpms or higher.
|
The timing chains should be replaced
edit: no wonder i though i posted this twice..I think the other thread where it says head blown or something like that has the same problem.. |
Thanx for answering my ? ppl.... but im not gonna fix it. I just found out i hav a blown headgasket, need new radiator and hoses, and the timing chain work. around 1500 - 1800... so..... now im gonna toss the engine and swap the engine. So... the new question is now... what engine should i swap in. hmmmmmm.......
|
How much money do you have? :D
|
rights now, not enough. im gonna borrow a friends car until i save up 2k (2 months for me =( ) im leanin towards a CA right now.
|
Or you can swap another KA in there:p
|
yea i was thinkin that, one with lower mileage. but isnt CA lighter? and has around 20 hp more?
|
Yea, but they are typically higher mileage and are older. PLus there aren't that many parts out there for the CA.
