Rebuild Recommendations
 

I am looking into a 240sx with a blown SOHC (head gasket) and was wondering should I go ahead and rebuild it. Or should I buy the guys (guy who owns the car) rebuilt KA24DE...for $750...I found BRAND NEW KA24DE for $1832. What do you guys recommend I do. I want the car but dont know if I should get the rebuilt motor with it then swap it in or wait until I save $2g in 2 months and swap that in? What will be needed to do the swap also. I will search later about it as I know there is a place on here for engine swaps.

if your on a low budget go ahead and rebuild the sohc. will cost about $300-$400 for a basic rebuild. that is if your doing it yourself. if youve got some cash to spend go with the dual cam hes offering and swap that it. theres write ups everywhere on how to perform these builds. good luck.

What are your plans for the car? I know personally I would never spend $2000 for a stock KA24DE. You can pick up a used one for rather cheap, and rebuild it with some performance parts for that price. Rebuilding the SOHC is a good, simple, not as expensive option as well. So let us know what you plan to do with the car and we will be able to help you a little better.

AHHHH people abandon their KAs for SR swaps all the time. Half the time they give them away to get them out of their garage.

Your living a few years behind everyone else. Now people can build up the KA and turbo charge. SR's are getting tooo expensive...

I have changed my mind about swapping in a SR. I can build a animal KAxDE for a quarter of the cost and get the same (if not more) performance.

Plus, I live in an emissions county, so keeping the KA in the car will save hassle come re-inspection time.

Free KAs are everywhere and the rebuild kits are stupid-cheap.

keeping the ka will help you when it comes to emissions, but slapping on a turbo might cause you some problems.
