Rev limit at 5k??????

I searched for a bit and couldn't find this exact problem..

My car is auto -> Manual swap. With s13 exhause cams on a 95 s14 rebuilt engine.

This has only happend to me twice since I have owned the car for 2 months. It hits 5k and bounces off it like a rev limit. It seems to be only when it is really damp/wet outside. This happend to me on saturday, then on sunday it was fine.. It actually reved a lil past 7k rpms.

So, I don't understand why this happens randomly.

It has Cold Air Intake/Header/Exhaust and new o2 sensor. So, Any ideas?

may be related to a fuel problem, maybe check your filter and make sure its not clogged or nething like that.

...valve srprings giving out and floating?

broke_s13 06-07-2006 08:33 PM

Is it obvious if the valve springs are bad? Just by looking?

Well technically in a state of high rev there should be a bit of floating, this is what is called valve overlap. This is needed in order to maintain constant power at higher RPM.

In his case at a 5000RPM rev limit he should run an ecu diagnostic before concluding to anything in my opinion. May just be something really simple.

How/Where should I go to get this ECU diagnostic done?

I had similiar experience in my car, 1991 240, it would bounce off 5000 rpm like a rev limiter.

It was prominent in 5th gear, but I also noticed that if i rev the motor in any gear while I was moving, it would also rev to only 5k.

I recently replaced my ECU #24 to another ECU #24 with the limiters removed, and have had no problems.

My thought is this might be usual for the car, and not a problem at all.

Just my 2c

I tried searching but it won't let me search for ECU # 24 What do you mean by that? Did you get a whole new ECU or what?

LA_phantom_240 06-08-2006 05:06 PM

Each ECU has a number in big bold print, to determine which ECU it is... now from what i know, the only difference in the ecus for s13 91-94 240sx's is their processing power... supposedly the higher the number, the faster it processes info... of course, i cant remember where i heard this, nor do i know how accurate this information is

Someone is selling a 95 3C ECU.. I have to check which one I have, but i know my engine is a 95.. That should work no matter what, right?

Also how do u disable the limiters?
