Short Intake

Hi, I want to create/install a really short intake on my car that will be routed to the battery location in my engine bay. I want to create one similar to this: http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/9826/685intake16fm.jpg

I got the image from this Thread, but there was not much explanation on how the intake was created.

I would like to use 2.5" piping to the throttle body. So far I have learned that I will need a MAFS adaptor, some silicone/rubber hose to adapt the piping to the TB, some hose clamps, a 45 degree mandrel bent 2.5" aluminum pipe, and a cone filter.

What i'm not sure of though, is what to do with the air temp sensor, and the coolant lines attached to the stock intake.

why would you want to do that? is it like better the shorter it is? im guessing the closer to the engine the faster the airflow the better the intake/ and exaust output? not sure, will it make that much difference?

You can either weld some fittings on for the vacuum lines, or if you check out pdm-racing they have stuff so you can drill a hole, and then insert a rubber grommet that will hold the fitting for the vacuum line. Not sure how your gonna have to attach the sensor.

G3bio, it should give you a tad better response. Read the thread he linked to, they discuss it a bit.

wouldn't the air be colder since it doesn't have to go over the radiator?

Yeah

from what it looks like... he just cut a cold air short and then rotated to the side wher the battery was located... because from the pic... i forgot what that hole is for but that small black tube that is closest to the tb is ont he bottome of my intake...

seems easy to do ..

just cut a intake and then put a coupler on it and then clamps.... voila~

as for the wiring just cut and make it longer...

i might do that with my KA-T hm...

Well if you are going KA-T, you're intake is going to be on the other side of the bay due to the turbo being there. IC piping will replace any intake you would buy now.

Uh Oh...G3Bio doesn't know what he's talking about.

another solution would be to buy an eBay brand CAI, and cut it up.

will is gain some hp , i have an ka24e and i was thinking about removing the airintake heater and putting the same thing? removing the belt driven fan how much hp will i gain?
