Tensioner question

I have finaly found out the the nasty chain rattle noise wasn't from the lower parts of the of the timing chain system even though they had to be replaced. I belive its just the top tensioner that is still rattling because when I rev the engine its sounds fine and when it goes back to idle its ok.. until a few seconds later and then it continues with the nastyness. So I was wondering what would be the worst thing that could happen if I remove the top tensioner. It would be nice to get rid of that anoying noise. One more question, I have an automatic (ewww, soon as I get 1g that will change!), what are good signs that the torque converter is overheating because I think mine might be since the fluid is air cooled.

um... well seems to me like it would have some sort of effect on oil pressure, being that oil would rapidly escape from the orfice the once led to the tensioner.. then again i did think almost too hard about it. I wouldnt recommend it though.
