thermostat housing

Hi, I am a noobie. I have a 92 240sx. While changing the thermostat the housing (part that thermo fits in) cracked. I want to weld, but would like some suggestions:dunno:

rudeboy 11-04-2002 08:29 PM

the way i look at it, is that may be a temporary solution. if you can weld then do it and keep an eye on it till that new part comes in.
where you get your OEM parts from?

rudeboy 11-04-2002 08:30 PM

there is nothin like jumpin in your car and havin nothin to worry about

Thanks Rudeboy, But if weld does not work, then I need to find a used part. The new cost $400 or better. The chipped part is less than an inch long. $400 for less than an inch chip....:tear: Must be a better way to solve. Can not find wrecked car to get part...:anger2: Started out as a simple repair now something serious:tear:

$400...tell me what part again just so we're not on diffrent pages here.

try this place. i got my timing kit from em. cheaper then courtesy.
i'm not sure what part you're talking about exactly. i was under the impression the thermostat was in the timing cover. but i also have a 90.
my whole tining cover was olny $90:thumb:

Ok Rudeboy, the thermostat fits into a housing. The housing is attached to the engine. The housing has three bolt holes in it. When you place the cover over the housing you then pass the bolts through the cover and screw the bolts into the housing. The lower bolt hole (that is part of the housing) has broken off. To make clear...the part that the thermo fits into is cracked....That part is not a stand alone...it is a plate that goes across the engine...the water pump bolts onto it....hope that was a little better:confused:

ok. that helps. i got that piece from Nissan for $95
alotta places dont have the part # so call Nissan get the part # and leave emails.
you can find a good deal if you look. and the best part is they're all OEM stuff.
the link i gave you won't have it either.
#1) get the part number
#2) get quotes.
#3) isn't that aluminum? don't weld that.:nono:
i think when i called for mine they thought i said DOHC and quoted me $125. 2 day wait from the dealer.

DON"Y PAY TO HAVE IT DONE_IT"S SO EASY . pain in the ass but easy

even with the diffrences between SOHC and DOHC it's still crazy easy.
even if you buy the factory service manual(our bible)
it'll save you tons.
and just so you know you use permatex not a regular gasket
