Throttle Issue

My 98 SE has 2 throttle related issues. First of all, the car redlines 1k before it is supposed to. I thought this was due to a bad TPS(Throttle Position Sensor), but a new one did not fix the problem. Second, when shifting, my car gives me a jerk. Sometimes it does this after I have put the car into a gear. I do not know if this is an ignition problem like bad wires, or a tranny issue. The car is a manual, but it seems to have a bad tran. mount. Would that cause it to jerk? Any advice would help. Thank you in advance

Does it jerk once or a couple of times? Mine does that too when I'm accelerating 1/2 throttle and I've been told it may be a bad MAFS. It's not when shifting though, its more during acceleration.

Well yea its after I shift, and acclerate. Also, it does jerk a couple times like yours. I just hoped it wasnt a bad MAF. They are quite expensive.

Well I don't know for sure, I have just recently been researching that and came across it in a few forums for other cars. They were all different makes and models of cars but all with the same problem as us, and it said it was the MAFS. So, maybe look into that, unless somebody says something different.

another thing that may be messing it up is if you have a aftermarket breather filter instead of the hose to the intake, if you forgot to block off the hole on the intake, or if it fell out or something, then it will throw off the MAFS. if that applies to you.

No I have the hose to the intake. Thanks though. Im guessing it is the MAF sensor at this point. Thanks guys

You can get those from a third-party source for a lot cheaper than OEM -- I'm talking less than a third of OEM prices.

Try Advance Auto

(disclaimer: no, I don't work for them :p My dad just happened to get a good deal on a MAF sensor from this place)
