timeing chain problem
 

ok so i took my valve cover off the other day because i heard some ratteling in the engine and saw that my timeing chain was pretty loose. i decided to take it to a shop to have it done just because iam in the middle of moving and dont have the time. so i took it to the shop and the mechanic tried to tell me that on most 240's when the timeing chain goes before you catch it the motors shot so he tries to tell me i have get a new motor...... is he BSin the hell outa me or what?? this is the first time i ever had a car with a timeing chain instead of a belt but iam still pretty sure i dont have to get a new motor just because the chain's a little loose. am i right or no???

i replaced my timing chain after it had gone completely and nothing happened. just make sure all your valves and everything are alright. since you caught it early enough i wouldn't worry about it. if you do it yourself you'll save nearly 700. i understand the time issues but 700 for a saturday is well worth it.

Pure BS, you can change it for pretty cheap, buy it on Egay for cheaper. Now you will need to take out most of the front engine apart. I recomend while you're there replace the head gasket too. you may need to take out the engine.
